Kiler

Kiler (English: The Hitman) is a 1997 Polish comedy by Juliusz Machulski, starring Cezary Pazura, Jerzy Stuhr, Janusz Rewiński, Jan Englert, Katarzyna Figura and Małgorzata Kożuchowska. The movie is a story of a taxi driver named Jerzy (short: Jurek) Kiler who is mistaken for a notorious mercenary killer by the police as well as the mafia.

Seeing the movie's tremendous success in Poland, Hollywood quickly purchased the rights to the movie, with the intention to adapt it for the American market, with Machulski (the original director) as the executive producer. However, nothing of the sort has happened since.

Kiler is a Turkish group of companies whose flagship operation is a large supermarket chain.

    History

From 1984 onwards members of the Kiler family opened a number of supermarkets in the Istanbul area, which in 1994 were incorporated as Kiler Supermarket Gıda Sanayi ve Tic. A.Ş. By 2004 the group had 33 stores in the Istanbul area and went to acquire chains of supermarkets in other parts of Turkey. By 2010 Kiler had 172 stores in 26 cities. Stores range from 600 to 2,500m2 but the Kiler concept is based on supermarkets with an average size of 900m2.

The supermarkets are the central business interest of Kiler Holding, which consists of 22 companies with more than 5.000 employees, operating in the retail trade, real estate development, tourism and health sectors. Since 2000 the real estate interests of the group have been managed by a separate company, Kiler Gayrimenkul, responsible for acquiring, developing and refurbishing properties for the retail business, and more recently for development as residential buildings and shopping centres. The flagship project of Kiler GYO is the Istanbul Sapphire skyscraper.
