Kilan (Persian: كيلان, also Romanized as Kīlān and Kilun)[1] is a city in the Central District of Damavand County, Tehran Province, Iran. At the 2006 census, its population was 3,038, in 913 families.[2]
The name Kilan means - according to its natives - Kingsplace.
In the mountain area of Kilan, leftovers were found from people living there about eighteen thousand years ago. The mountains around the town, like Dar Ali, are scattered with remainders from the Tertiary.
As of 2006, there are around 3,000 inhabitants, with a remarkably high intelligence. Though not shown immediately by their simple lifestyle, it's clear from the fact that there is no analphabetism, 75 percent of the inhabitants of the town have academic degrees. Some people from that city moved all over the world, and they carry the last name Kilani. The last name Kilani is found in Hawaii, Cypress Island, and all cross North Africa the Middle East.
