Kidz Bop is a brand of compilation albums featuring kids performing contemporary popular songs. The series was developed by Razor & Tie co-founders Cliff Chenfeld and Craig Balsam in September 2001. The albums are composed of popular songs that chart high on the Billboard Hot 100 and/or receive heavy airplay from contemporary hit radio stations several months ahead of each album's release. The songs are performed by the KIDZ BOP Kids.
The franchise has sold more than 16 million albums. Since its debut in 2001, KIDZ BOP has expanded significantly to include merchandise, music videos, a live touring division, talent search competitions and the KIDZ BOP Kids who are the face of the brand. The KIDZ BOP Kids are chosen by audition. There are 31 main albums. The latest release, KIDZ BOP 31, marked the brand’s 23rd Top 10 debut.
Kidz Bop 7 is the seventh album in the Kidz Bop series. The album was released on February 22, 2005 and was certified Gold by the RIAA on November 7, 2005.
Heather Phares of Allmusic says the album is "one of the better volumes in the series" with "a decent collection of songs, and the odder moments on it are mostly pleasantly surprising instead of questionable." The "Kidz Bop-ified cover of Modest Mouse's 'Float On' ... is pretty much in keeping with the entire series' slightly surreal feel," and "the version of 'Lose My Breath' is nearly as odd, and oddly exhilarating."
