Hors

In Slavic mythology, Hors (Old Church Slavonic: Хърсъ, Cyrillic: Хорс) is the Slavic sun god.

The name Hors comes from the Iranian languages (Scythian or Sarmatian) — see Avestan divinity Hvarə хšаētəm, Middle Persian: xvaršêt, Persian: xoršid‎‎ (خورشید or خرشید) "Sun". From this words derives the name of Greater Khorasan and Khorasan Province, possibly also Khwarezm, meaning "land where the sun rises".

According to the Rus' Primary Chronicle, in 980, Vladimir I of Kiev "placed the idols at the hill outside the palace: wooden Perun… and Hors, Dažbog and Stribog and Simargl and Mokosh".

Based on the situation in the transfer of the gods of the pantheon of great prince Vladimir, the Hors was the second most important deity in this period. The author of Tale of Igor's Campaign provides the name of the Hors epithet Great.

Hypotheses about the functions of the god Hors based on the interpretation of the text of the Tale of Igor’s Campaign. It is believed that the Hors was the god of the solar disk. Hors moved across the sky during the day, and under the ground — at night. Based on a literal reading of the text Tale of Igor’s Campaign can be assumed and the existence of representations of the sacred "way of Hors", which Vseslav crossed somewhere between Kiev and Tmutarakan.

Khors (band)

Khors is a Ukrainian black metal band formed in 2004 in Kharkiv by Khorus, the former bass guitarist of Astrofaes. During the creative activity, the band recorded four full-length albums and two DVDs. The group keeps an active touring and performed with groups like Enslaved, Moonspell, Behemoth, Gorgoroth, Nokturnal Mortum and Temnozor. Reviews and interviews of the group Khors may be found in many magazines and web publishing.

History

The group was formed in 2004 with the former bass guitarist of Astrofaes, Khorus, who left the group to create his own project. In August 2004 the drummer Khaoth, a former member of Hate Forest, Astrofaes and Tessaract, and, subsequently, guitarist and vocalist Helg, who was a member of Runes of Dianceht, joined the band. In the fall of 2004 the band recorded their debut album The Flame Of Eternity’s Decline released by Audio Alchemia Studio. The keyboardist of black-metal group Nokturnal Mortum Saturious and the guitarist of group Finist Wortherax collaborated on the record. The mastering took place in the studio Buddha Cat in Moscow. It was released in April 2005 on Oriana Music label. In the same year on autumn the former member of Nagual Nort joined Khors. With his arrival the first membership of Khors starts their concert activity.
