Kevin Powell

Kevin Powell (born April 24, 1966) is an American political activist, poet, writer, and entrepreneur. Powell is also an activist who speaks against violence against girls and women, appearing on The Oprah Winfrey Show in March 2009. He made three unsuccessful runs for the United States Congress in New York's 10th congressional district.

Powell appeared in the first season of MTV's reality television series, The Real World: New York in 1992. He was the oldest member of The Real World cast. From 1992 to 1996, he was a senior writer for Vibe magazine. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.

Early life and career

Kevin Powell's hometown is Jersey City, New Jersey. He was raised in a poor background by a hard-working single mother from the South. In 1992, he was a cast member on The Real World: New York, the first season of the MTV reality television series in which a group of strangers live together for several months. During the course of his stay in the house, Powell had a number of discussions with his housemates about stereotypes and race, some of which resulted in heated arguments.

Kevin Powell (Canadian football)

Kevin Powell (born September 13, 1955 in Trail, British Columbia) is a former professional Canadian football offensive lineman who played 12 seasons in the Canadian Football League for five different teams. Number one overall pick in 1979 CFL draft by Toronto Argonauts.

Powell played college football at Utah State University, PCAA all conference selection 1978.

Powell was involved in one of the most significant quarterback trades in CFL history as the Toronto Argonauts sought future Hall of Famer Condredge Holloway for their sputtering offence and the Ottawa Rough Riders sought the promising young Powell and $100 000.
