Kevin Bacon

Kevin Norwood Bacon (born July 8, 1958) is an American actor and musician whose films include musical-drama film Footloose (1984), the controversial historical conspiracy legal thriller JFK (1991), the legal drama A Few Good Men (1992), the historical docudrama Apollo 13 (1995), and the mystery drama Mystic River (2003). Also on television, he starred in the Fox series The Following from 2013 to 2015. Bacon has won a Golden Globe Award and three Screen Actors Guild Awards, and was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award. The Guardian named him one of the best actors never to have received an Academy Award nomination. In 2003, Bacon received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Bacon has become an icon for the concept of interconnectedness (as in social networks), having been popularized by the game "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon". In 2007, he created SixDegrees.org, a charitable foundation.

Early life and education

Bacon, one of six children, was born and raised in a close-knit family in Philadelphia. His mother, Ruth Hilda (née Holmes; 1916–1991), taught at an elementary school and was a liberal activist, while his father, Edmund Norwood Bacon (May 2, 1910 – October 14, 2005), was a well-respected architect and a prominent Philadelphian who had been Executive Director of the Philadelphia City Planning Commission for many years.

Kevin Ashley Bacon (born 20 March 1932 in Dungog, New South Wales) is a former Australian equestrian. He represented Australia at three Olympic Games, where he failed to win any medals.

At the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, he placed 30th in the individual show jumping event on his horse Ocean Foam. When he teamed up with Thomas Fahey and Bridget MacIntyre he achieved his best result in his Olympic career when they finished seventh in the team show jumping event.

At the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, Mexico, he placed 18th in the individual show jumping event on his horse Chichester. When he teamed up with John Fahey and Sam Campbell they placed ninth in the team show jumping event.

At the 1976 Olympics in Montreal, Canada, he placed 37th in the individual show jumping event on his horse Chichester. When he teamed up with Guy Creighton and Barry Roycroft they placed equal ninth in the team show jumping event.

On 2 November 2000, Bacon was awarded the Australian Sports Medal for his equestrian achievements.

Kevin John Bacon (born 30 March 1959 in Rotherham) is an English musician and record producer best known for his work with fellow Brit Jonathan Quarmby under the moniker "Bacon & Quarmby", as well as his tenure as bassist for the band The Comsat Angels. after the band, Kevin Bacon, produced for many other artists, notably Finley Quaye, Longpigs, Ziggy Marley.

A native of Alfreton, Derbyshire, Bacon's introduction to the record industry came in 1978 when he helped found The Comsat Angels. The Comsats went on to make eight albums with Bacon for the Polydor, Jive and Island labels before he departed the band in 1989 to focus on record production and artist development in partnership with Jonathan Quarmby (Bacon & Quarmby, as they become known.) The duo worked with artists as diverse as Finley Quaye, The Pretenders, David Bowie and Ziggy Marley, who achieved both Grammy and Brit awards. Bacon also consulted at A&R for Island Records and developed joint venture businesses with Universal Publishing and TVT Records.

Kevin Bacon (politician)

Kevin Bacon (born November 27, 1971) is the state Senator for the 3rd District of the Ohio Senate, serving since 2011. Formerly, he served in the Ohio House of Representatives from 2007 to 2010, and as a Blendon Township Trustee. Bacon represents the portions of Franklin County including Westerville, New Albany, Gahanna, Whitehall, Reynoldsburg, Canal Winchester, Obetz, Valley View, Marble Cliff and portions of Columbus.

An attorney, Bacon also serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Civil Justice. He is a Republican.

Career

Bacon was born and raised in Defiance, Ohio. After graduation from Miami University and Capital Law School, Bacon, a private practice attorney, previously worked for Farmer's Insurance and the Ohio Department of Commerce and as a prosecutor for the City of Lancaster, Ohio. He currently is an attorney, of counsel, with the law firm of Appel & Hellstedt, located in Worthington, Ohio. He also served as a Blendon Township Trustee.

When incumbent Linda Reidelbach announced that she would not seek another term, Bacon was among three who sought to replace her. Bacon faced a clear shot in the primary. With the district being one that Democrats sought to pick up, Bacon faced a somewhat difficult challenge in the 2006 general election, and it was one of the most closely targeted races in the cycle. The campaign was subject to many attack ads from both sides. He bested Democrat Dean Hernandez by fewer than 1000 votes. In his first term, Speaker of the House Jon Husted appointed Bacon Vice Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.
