Keshet Media Group

Keshet Media Group, also known as Keshet, (Hebrew: קשת, lit. "Rainbow") is a private Israeli mass media company headquartered in Tel Aviv.

The company has operated Keshet Broadcasting, a television broadcast operator and a franchisee of Israel’s Channel 2, since 1993. It shows original drama series, entertainment, current affairs, lifestyle shows, and foreign programs. Keshet’s global production and distribution arm is Keshet International, and the company's digital branch is Mako, one of the top three most-trafficked websites in Israel.

Keshet was established in 1993 and is one of Israel's largest media companies.Avi Nir has been serving as the chief executive officer of Keshet Media Group since 2002. As a leading network in Israel, Keshet is responsible for shows including Prisoners of War (Hatufim) and Rising Star (Hacokav haba).

Keshet was founded in 1993 when Israel’s Channel 2 was formed along with two other operators, Telad and Reshet. The company was started by Alex Gilady, the current president of Keshet and a former vice president at NBC International in London.

Keshet, Golan Heights

Keshet (Hebrew: קֶשֶׁת) is an Israeli settlement, moshav shitufi, in the Golan Heights. It was established in 1974 after the Yom Kippur War by Hapoel HaMizrachi near the Syrian city of Quneitra, which had been abandoned and subsequently razed to the ground in the Six Day War. Its name is a translation of the name Quneitra ("arch"). The international community considers Israeli settlements in the Golan Heights illegal under international law, but the Israeli government disputes this.

History

Keshet was established in the period between the cease-fire and armistice agreement following the Yom Kippur War by national-religious demonstrators who opposed an Israeli withdrawal to the pre-war line. They initially settled in a bunker in the fringes of Quneitra, but were forced to relocate to an abandoned Syrian farm when Quneitra was returned to Syria as part of the armistice agreement. Four months later, the Israeli government agreed to establish the settlement, and the settlers moved to another temporary location in an abandoned Syrian military camp further west. The settlement at its present location was established in 1978.

Keshet (Hebrew: קשת‎ keshet, lit. "rainbow") is a national grassroots organization with offices in Boston, Denver, and the San Francisco Bay Area that works for the full equality and inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Jews in Jewish life. Led and supported by LGBT Jews and straight allies, Keshet offers resources, training, and technical assistance to create inclusive Jewish communities nationwide. Keshet produced the documentary Hineini: Coming Out in a Jewish High School and companion curriculum.

On June 18, 2010, it was announced that Jewish Mosaic, another American Jewish LGBT organization, would merge with Keshet, with the post-merger organization retaining the name "Keshet". The merger was aided through a grant from the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation. Jewish Mosaic was included in the 2005 and 2006 editions of “Slingshot,” a guide to 50 “of the most creative and effective Jewish organizations” in America.
