Kenny Roberts

Kenneth Leroy Roberts (born (1951-12-31)December 31, 1951 in Modesto, California) is an American former professional motorcycle racer and racing team owner. In 1978, he became the first American to win a Grand Prix motorcycle racing world championship. He was also a two-time winner of the A.M.A. Grand National Championship. Roberts is one of only four riders in American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) racing history to win the AMA Grand Slam, representing Grand National wins at a mile, half-mile, short-track, TT Steeplechase and road race events.

Roberts left his mark on Grand Prix motorcycle racing as a world championship winning rider, an advocate for increased safety standards in racing, and as a racing team owner and a motorcycle engine and chassis constructor. His dirt track-based riding style changed the way Grand Prix motorcycles were ridden. Roberts' proposal to create a rival motorcycle championship in 1979 broke the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) hegemony and increased the political clout of Grand Prix racers, which subsequently led to improved safety standards and a new era of professionalism in the sport. In 2000, Roberts was named a Grand Prix Legend by the FIM.

Ken Roberts (baseball)

Kenneth Elwin Roberts (born March 9, 1988) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the Philadelphia Phillies organization. He made his Major League Baseball (MLB) with the Colorado Rockies in 2015.

Career

Roberts played college baseball at Middle Tennessee State University. He was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 25th round of the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft.

Roberts was called up to the majors for the first time on May 2, 2015. He was designated for assignment on August 28, 2015. He was claimed off waivers by the Philadelphia Phillies two days later.

Kenny Roberts (musician)

Kenny Roberts (October 14, 1926 – April 29, 2012) was an American country music singer. He was born George S. Kingsbury Jr. in Lenoir City, Tennessee, but raised on a farm outside of Greenfield, Massachusetts. He is best known for his recordings of "I Never See Maggie Alone" and "Choc'late Ice Cream Cone", and was a member of The Down Homers with Bill Haley.

Life and career

He started in music at the age of 11, when he organized a band consisting entirely of young harmonica players. Later, he learned to play guitar and then bass fiddle and violin. He was inspired by Yodeling Slim Clark, Jimmie Rodgers and other singing cowboys and was known as a blue yodeler. Roberts learned to yodel and at the age of 17, won a New Hampshire radio contest to be chosen as "Eastern States Yodeling Champion" in 1944. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in early 1945, and moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, after World War II ended. He performed on several shows on radio station KMOX in St. Louis, Missouri, as well as the CBS Saturday morning show "Barnyard Frolics." then organized and led a Pennsylvania-based western swing band called the Down Homers, recording for Vogue Records.

Kenny Roberts (swimmer)

Kenny Roberts (born May 12, 1978) is a Seychellois former swimmer, who specialized in sprint freestyle, but also competed in breaststroke and in individual medley. He represented the Seychelles in all three editions of the Olympic Games, since the nation made its comeback in 1992. While studying in the United States, he played for the Bolles School's Sharks Club, under head coach Gregg Troy, and later for the Clemson University's swimming and diving team, also known as the Clemson Tigers. Currently, Roberts is appointed as the chairman of the Seychelles Swimming Association (SSA).

Roberts made his official debut, as a 14-year-old, at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. He failed to reach the top 16 final in any of his individual events, finishing sixty-eighth in the 50 m freestyle (26.78), seventy-second in the 100 m freestyle (58.86), fifty-eighth in the 100 m breaststroke (1:16.52), and fifty-first in the 200 m individual medley (2:30.35). He was also disqualified in the 200 m breaststroke for an illegal dolphin kick during the race.
