Ken Barlow

Kenneth "Ken" Barlow is a long-standing fictional character from the ITV soap opera Coronation Street, played by William Roache. Ken was created by Tony Warren as one of Coronation Street's original characters. He debuted in the soap's first episode on 9 December 1960. Having appeared continuously since the programme's inception, December 2010 marked Ken's 50th anniversary on-screen. At this time, Roache officially became the longest-serving actor in a televised soap opera. Roache was honoured at the 2010 Guinness World Records ceremony for the achievement, when he surpassed actor Don Hastings from the American soap opera As the World Turns, who previously held this title. Roache stated in 2010 that he has no plans to leave the role and will remain in Coronation Street for as long as he is able.

Ken was introduced as the educated 21-year-old son of a working-class family. Portrayed as moralistic and a political activist, Ken differed from the other, predominantly working-class characters in the soap opera. The character developed a reputation as a ladies' man; plots saw Ken dating numerous women, marrying four times to three women (Valerie Tatlock in 1962, Janet Reid in 1972 and Deirdre Langton in 1981 and again in 2005), fathering four children (Lawrence Cunningham, Susan Barlow, Peter Barlow and Daniel Osbourne), and adopting his stepdaughter (Tracy Barlow). Of the many women Ken has been paired with, his relationship with Deirdre has been the most enduring; they married in 1981 and divorced a decade later, only to remarry in 2005. Ken's and Deirdre's fictional relationship made newspaper headlines in Britain in 1983 due to Deirdre's adultery with Mike Baldwin. The storyline captured both media and viewer interest. Twenty million people tuned in to watch Ken's discovery of the affair. The storyline led to a feud between Ken and Mike, prominent in both characters' narratives until Mike Baldwin was killed off in 2006.

Ken Barlow (harness racing)

Kenneth D. Barlow (born July 28, 1936) professionally known as Ken Barlow, was an American Harness Horse Driver. Ken Barlow married Sharlene Ryle on July 2, 1955 and they had four daughters Debbie, Dianne, Donna, and Darlene. His professional career began in 1960 with a horse named Lucky Jim and he won his first race with a horse named Tommy Goose. Ken Barlow was a two time Champion and Winner of the “Indiana Harness Horse Driver of the Year” award in 1964 and 1965. He started racing a horse named Virgne’s Lady Plaid in 1965, who in 1966 won "Indiana's 3 year old Trotting Crown" by winning 13 straight victories and “Indiana Horse of the Year” with 21 out of 30 wins overall. That same year they tied for the “National Lead in Harness Horse Race Wins by a Trotter”and set the seasons record of 2:06.4 on a half mile track at Anderson Indiana. On April 19, 1968 Ken Barlow and Virgnes Lady Plaid set the season record at Saratoga Raceway of 2:05.1 and then lowered it to 2:04.3 on April 26 and then lowered it again to 2:03.4 on May 10, 1968.

Ken Barlow (basketball)

Kenneth Barlow (born September 20, 1964) is an American former professional basketball player.

Barlow graduated from University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana.

Basketball career

Ken served as team captain his final two seasons while helping the Irish to two NCAA tournament berths (1985, 1986) and a runner-up finish at 1984 National Invitation Tournament (NIT).

After college, Ken was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1st round (23rd overall) of the 1986 NBA Draft.

He played in Europe for Olimpia Milano Maccabi Tel Aviv, PAOK, Pfizer Reggio Calabria, Benetton Treviso, Pistoia Olimpia Basket, Mabo Livorno.

Personal

Ken has two sons who both play college basketball. His son Kelsey played at Purdue(now at UIC) and Keenan plays for Tiffin. He also has a cousin Ashley Barlow who tri-captained the Notre Dame Fighting Irish women's basketball in 2009 and 2010. She played for Notre Dame from 2007-2010.
