Ken Clark (running back)

Kenneth R. Clark (June 17, 1966 – February 16, 2013) was a former professional American football player from Evergreen, Alabama who played running back for three seasons for the Indianapolis Colts.

College

Clark was a two-time All Big-Eight running back for the Nebraska Cornhuskers from 1986-89. Following a redshirt season in 1986, Clark played sporadically as a sophomore, appearing in eight games before suffering a knee strain. He rushed for over 1,000 yards in both his junior and senior seasons, and as of 2012, his three-year rushing total of 3,037 yards ranks seventh on Nebraska's all-time leaders in that category. He averaged 6.1 yards per carry for his college career. His career highlight came during his junior season in a 1988 game against Oklahoma State where he outgained eventual Heisman trophy winner Barry Sanders 256 yards to 189 and also scored three touchdowns, the first on a dazzling 73 yard run on Nebraska's first play from scrimmage.

NFL

In 1990, Clark was drafted in the eighth round by the Indianapolis Colts and appeared in 34 games for the Colts in three seasons. In 1991, he was the only running back to play in all 16 games for the Colts.

Ken Clark and Randy Sloan co-founded The North Bay Business Journal in 1987. The Business Journal, headquartered in Santa Rosa, California, is a weekly newspaper covering local business news in Sonoma, Marin and Napa counties. Clark served as publisher and Sloan as editor. They sold The North Bay Business Journal to The New York Times Company in 2005.

The two also founded the 680 Business Journal in 1996, which they sold to American City Business Journals in 2001.

Ken Clark serves on the Dean’s advisory board of the School of Business and Economics at Sonoma State University, the advisory board of Presidio Bank in San Francisco, and the Board of Directors of the Golden State Land Conservancy. He also served on the Board of Directors of the North Bay Leadership Council (2000–2007) and the Board of Directors of the Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce (2003–2007). He retired from The New York Times Co. in 2007 and resides in Santa Rosa.

Randy Sloan served on the Board of Directors of the Sonoma County Alliance from 2003-2005. He splits his time between Jalisco and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Clark (mascot)

Clark is the official team mascot of Major League Baseball's Chicago Cubs. He was announced on January 13, 2014 as the first official mascot in the modern history of the Cubs franchise. He was introduced that day at the Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center's pediatric developmental center along with some of the Cubs' top prospects such as number one draft pick Kris Bryant and Albert Almora, Jorge Soler, Mike Olt and Eric Jokisch. Over a dozen Cubs prospects were attending the Cubs' Rookie Development Program that week. The Cubs become the 27th team in Major League Baseball to have a mascot, leaving the Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees as the remaining franchises without mascots. According to the Cubs' press release, Clark is a response to fan demands (expressed via surveys and interviews) for more kid-friendly elements at Wrigley Field Cubs games to keep pace with games in other cities that have more to offer youth fans.

Description

He is a "young, friendly Cub" who will wear a backwards baseball cap and greet fans entering Wrigley Field, which is located at the corner of Clark Street (for which he is named) and Addison Street. North Clark Street borders the third base side of Wrigley Field. According to the Cubs, the fictional character Clark is descended from Joa, the franchise's original live Bears mascot in 1916.
