KCRG-TV

KCRG-TV, channel 9, is a television station, operating as the ABC affiliate for the Cedar Rapids, Iowa metropolitan area, and the nearby cities of Waterloo, Iowa City and Dubuque. The station is owned by Gray Television.

The station broadcasts on VHF digital channel 9, and is the primary ABC for the northeast quarter of Iowa. The station's studios are located on 2nd Avenue Southeast in Cedar Rapids and its transmitter is located in Walker, Iowa.

Digital Television

KCRG has a digital subchannel called "KCRG 9.2" at channel 9.2, which originally aired a wheel schedule of local news, weather and features. The remainder of the screen had a news ticker, current weather conditions, rotating weather images and program listings. Over time, syndicated and locally produced programs were added, culminating in the addition of MyNetworkTV to the subchannels in October 2011, one month after KWKB dropped the service and became a sole CW affiliate. However, MyNetworkTV's programming runs as a late night offering on 9.2, airing from 12:05–2:05 a.m., five hours later than its usual primetime running time. Subchannel 9.2 is also used to air ABC network programming pre-empted on the main signal for breaking news coverage; a prime example was during the Great Iowa Flood of June 2008, when 9.2 carried ABC's coverage of the NBA Finals while 9.1 devoted full coverage of the disaster.

World TV

World TV is a New Zealand television, radio and print media company specialising in media for Asian migrants and Asian language communities. It operates eleven specialist television channels and publishes a national-circulation magazine for subscribers of its five Sky TV digital television packages. It also broadcasts two free-to-air television channels on the Freeview platform and three 24-hour radio networks through terrestrial radio and Sky TV.

Programmes on the television channels, branded KTV, JTV and CTV, include local news and current affairs programmes, subtitled 3 News bulletins and content from Chinese, Korean, Taiwanese and Japanese broadcasters and producers. World TV's largest shareholder is Taiwanese resident Fun-nu Tsai with a 19 percent stake; chief executive Henry Ho owns 15 percent of the company and 11 other investors also have shares. The company's income is now evenly shared between advertising and subscription fees.

TV9 (Telugu)

TV9(టీవీ9) is an Indian cable and satellite television news network that is owned by Associated Broadcasting Company Private Limited (ABCL). TV9 News channel was founded in 2004 by Ravi Prakash. Upon its launch, it was the first television channel to provide 24-hour news coverage in Telugu language in India. TV9 became popular with the Telugu audience for its bold and unbiased presentation of news. It has over 50 million viewers all over India. Its tagline is "For a Better Society".

History

Early history

ABCL was founded as a private media group by an journalist Ravi Prakash in 2003. He was the CEO of ABCL, leading a group of like minded young journalists. The first channel broadcast by the company was TV9, in 2004. It was a 24-hour news channel in Telugu regional language. Following its success in Andhra Pradesh, TV9 expanded its network. Over the years, a few more affiliates to TV9 in different regional languages like Kannada, Marathi, and Gujarati have been setup. From then onwards, TV9 is referred to as TV9 telugu (Telugu: టీవీ9). All these channels are broadcast from ABCL's head office in Hyderabad, Telangana, India.

KGYM

KGYM (1600 AM) is a radio station broadcasting in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The station is owned by KZIA, Inc., which also owns KZIA (102.9 FM). It is Cedar Rapids' second-oldest radio station, after WMT.

KGYM is not licensed to broadcast a digital hybrid HD signal on its AM frequency of 1600 kHz, but it can be heard in HD on KZIA HD3.

History

KGYM signed on as KCRG on December 20, 1947, under the ownership of the Cedar Rapids Gazette Company (later known as Gazette Communications). The Gazette Company had launched Cedar Rapids' first FM station, KCRK-FM 96.1, a month earlier and had applied for a construction permit for a television station on channel 9 that year. (KCRK-FM signed off in 1954 as FM radio was still in its infancy and the station proved to be unprofitable.) In 1953 the Gazette Company consolidated its interests with the Cedar Rapids Television Company, another group interested in the channel 9 license, and in October 1953 the call letters of the radio and television stations were changed to KCRI. After the Gazette Company bought out the Cedar Rapids Television Company's stock on August 27, 1954, the KCRG call letters were restored to both the AM and TV stations.
