Karp may refer to:
Åkarp is a locality situated in Burlöv Municipality, Skåne County, Sweden with 5,617 inhabitants in 2010.
It is situated approximately 8 km northeast of Malmö and 13 km southwest of Lund. It has a railway station where the Skåne commuter rail network stops.
In 1120 the village was known to be called Acathorp, from the two words Åke (a Swedish man's name) and torp. Around the 15th century the name changed to Ågarp, and during the 16th century the name changed to Ågerup. The first record of the name Åkarp is from the year 1770.
Composer Lars-Erik Larsson was born in Åkarp.
Karp was a post-hardcore band from Tumwater, Washington, that formed in 1990 and lasted until 1998. The band was formed by Chris Smith aka Chris "Slayer", Jared Warren, and Scott Jernigan. They released three full length albums titled Mustaches Wild, Suplex, and Self Titled LP. (Note that "Self Titled LP" is a literal title. The title is not "Karp." Even the CD version of the record is titled "Self Titled LP.") They also released several EPs and 7" records. Their recordings were released by several Northwest-related labels such as K Records, Kill Rock Stars, and Punk In My Vitamins. Karp managed to mix the terror of hardcore, The Melvins, and Black Sabbath with an ear for pop-influenced song assembly. The band name is inspired from a newsletter/zine that Chris Smith put out in highschool and is an acronym that stands for "Kill All Redneck Pricks". Their oft used logo of an eagle with spread wings was a modification on the defunct NRA's Blue Eagle.
Members went on to play with Tight Bro's from Way Back When, The Whip, Dead Air Fresheners, Big Business and The Melvins. Drummer Scott Jernigan died in a boating accident on June 10, 2003.
Heavy swallow but theres still no comment
Hut 1, 2, salute you
Wait for a cadence that seems just familiar to walk to
Wicked spells that they put you under
Bet both hands you'll follow
Pack an extra face to save and pledge allegiance to
behave
Give the monkeys the time to jabber
Now that sounds appealing
The speech that cattle like to hear has less to do with
pride than fear
Make way for the new battalion
