KMC (musician)

Ken Marlon Charles a.k.a. KMC (born January 5, 1971) is a soca artist from Trinidad. Famous for hits like "Soul on Fire", "Soca Bashment" and "Bashment to Carnival" KMC is signed to the US-based record label Sequence Records. Considered to be one of Trinidad's top soca artists, KMC has over sixteen years experience in the music industry. He has made a name for himself as a solo artist, songwriter, producer and frontman of the band Red, White & Black.

Early years

KMC is one of nine children. He was born and raised in the village of Rio Claro and then moved to Chaguanas, where he has resided for the past eleven years. The road to success for KMC has been filled with both high and low moments. Probably the lowest was the day when, strapped with hunger, he resorted to cracking open a dry coconut in the yard of his one-room home in Laventille, putting a milk pan on a kerosene burner and flavoring the coconut with only a little end of curry powder.

Career

KMC always had a passion for music. As a young child he used to sneak about and listen to the bands in his village. "At the age of seven, I used to go under the house by the band and when they weren't around I would play the drum set." As time marched on, the same energy and precociousness that brought the young KMC to the drum set also brought him to teach himself how to play music. "Music is something I was never taught. I was never taught to play the keyboard. I learned to do everything on my own. Love is what made me master it. Everything I do is by ear and not by reading," he proclaims.

Karizma Real Name: Kris Klayton (Born on March 28, 1970, in Baltimore, Maryland, United States) is an American electronic musician and DJ known for his wide variety of music production in deep house, deep techno, hip hop, jazz, and broken beat, and his ability to master Pioneer Corporation's CDJ-2000 and DJM 2000 being sponsored by Pioneer Pro DJ Japan in 2010. In 2014 August, Karizma entered "Hall of Fame" by Pete Tong on BBC Radio 1.

Early career

Karizma grew up in Baltimore, United States, and he began to DJ for fashion shows and college parties at age of 13. In early 1980, Karizma landed a radio show with a non-profit National Public Radio station, WEAA, and his early style was a mix of house music and hip hop. Around the same time, Karizma met DJ Spen, and together with him, worked on a radio show at V103,the same station that he held a very popular weekend mix show with unruly records co-founders,Scottie B and Shawn Caesar.. Karizma and DJ Spen worked on a music production project with a record label, Jasper Street Company, and joined the house-music production group the Basement Boys, and worked on remixes for musicians such as Mary J. Blige, Bob Sinclar, and Lenny Kravitz.

Karizma (Serbian Cyrillic: Каризма; trans. Charisma) is a Serbian and former Yugoslav hard rock/glam metal band.

Band history

1985 - 1994

Karizma was formed in Belgrade in 1985. In 1988 Karizma won the first place at Gitarijada festival in Zaječar and released their debut album Vreme je za nas (It's Time for Us) in 1989, in the following lineup: Dušan Zarić (vocals), Dušan Janićijević (guitar), Dragoljub Popović (guitar), Zoran Miletić (bass guitar), Dejan Tomović (keyboard) and Srđan Milenković (drums). After the album was released Zarić left the band due to his army obligations. A former Otkrovenje member Dejan Jelisavčić replaced Zarić. In 1990 the band was awarded with MESAM's award for the best debut act in 1989. The same year Karizma was an opening band on Kerber tour.

In 1991 the band released its second studio album U snovima (In the Dreams) with Goran Tadić (drums) as Karizma's new member. Album featured a cover of Oliver Mandić's song "Ljuljaj me nežno". In 1993 bass guitarist Saša Đokić and drummer Dragan Živković replaced Tomović and Tadić. In 1994 the band recorded demos for the album that was never released and disbanded soon after. During the same year, the band's song "Daj mi" ("Let Me") was released on Komuna compilation album Pakleni vozači: Jugoslovenski hard rock (Hell Riders: Yugoslav Hard Rock).
