Kāne Milohai

In Hawaiian mythology, Kāne-milo-hai is the brother of Kamohoaliʻi, Pele, Kapo, Nāmaka and Hiʻiaka (among others) by Haumea.

He is a minor figure in Hawaiian mythology, figuring most prominently in the story of Pele's journey along the island chain to Hawaiʻi, and may be seen as a terrestrial counterpart to his brother, the shark-god Kamohoaliʻi.

The word kāne alone means "man", and Kāne is one of the four major Hawaiian deities along with Kanaloa, Kū, and Lono. As a result, Kāne-milo-hai is occasionally confused with the latter.

Kane (wrestler)

Glenn Thomas Jacobs (born April 26, 1967) is an American professional wrestler and actor. He works for WWE, and is best known by his ring name Kane. Jacobs began his professional wrestling career on the independent circuit in 1992. He wrestled in promotions such as Smoky Mountain Wrestling (SMW) and the United States Wrestling Association (USWA) before joining the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE) in 1995. Jacobs played various characters until 1997, when he was repackaged as Kane, the monstrous and/or demonic younger brother of The Undertaker, with whom Jacobs would alternatively feud or team as The Brothers of Destruction.

Following his debut, Kane remained a pivotal component of the company's Attitude Era of the late 1990s and early 2000s, defeating Stone Cold Steve Austin for the WWF Championship in his first pay-per-view (PPV) main event at King of the Ring 1998. He has continued to compete in world championship PPV matches through the mid 2010s.

Kane has won 18 total championships during his WWF/E career, including being a three-time world champion (having held the WWF Championship, ECW Championship, and World Heavyweight Championship once each) and a 12-time world tag team champion, having held the WWF/E (World) Tag Team Championship, WCW Tag Team Championship, and WWE Tag Team Championships with various partners. He is also a two-time WWE Intercontinental Champion and a 2010 Money in the Bank winner. Two-time WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair has called Kane "the best in the world".

Kane (noble family)

Kane was the name of a Norwegian medieval noble family. The family was one of the few original noble families of Norway, as it unlike many other families did not originate from Denmark or Sweden. The male line of the family probably died out in the late 15th century.

History

The earliest known member of the family was the væpner (squire) and riksråd (cabinet minister) Gunnar Toraldeson Kane. One of his sons, Nikolas Gunnarsson Kane, was a riksråd and knight, and his daughter Sigrid married the knight Svale Jonson of the Smør-family.

Two grandsons of Gunnar, Gaute Toraldeson Kane and Gaute Nikolasson Kane were also knights and riksråd-members, and highly influential men. The male line of the family probably died out with the grandson of the first Gaute's father (Toralde), the væpner, riksråd and lensherre (seignory) Arild Ottesson Kane who in 1496 was murdered by a group of peasants in Sunnmøre.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms of the Kane-family had a white background, and a red saltire with four red roses (or sometimes stars) in each of the four free spaces. On the helmet it had two feathers of a peacock.

West

West is a noun, adjective, or adverb indicating direction or geography. West is one of the four cardinal directions or compass points. It is the opposite of east and is perpendicular to north and south.

Etymology

The word "West" is a Germanic word passed into some Romance languages (ouest in French, oest in Catalan, ovest in Italian, oeste in Spanish and Portuguese). As is apparent in the Gothic term vasi (Visigoths), it stems from the same Indo-European root that gave the Sanskrit vas-ati (night) and vesper (evening) in Latin.

Navigation

To go west using a compass for navigation, one needs to set a bearing or azimuth of 270°.

West is the direction opposite that of the Earth's rotation on its axis, and is therefore the general direction towards which the Sun appears to constantly progress and eventually set.

Moving continuously west is following a circle of latitude.

The phrase "the West" is often spoken in reference to the Western world, which includes Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the European Union, and the United States of America.

West, Texas

West is a city in McLennan County, Texas, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 2,807. It is named after T.M. West, the first postmaster of the city.

The city is located in the north-central part of Texas, approximately 70 miles south of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, 20 miles north of Waco and 120 miles north of Austin, Texas, the state's capital.

History

The first settlers of northern McLennan County arrived in the 1840s. They were farm and ranch families drawn from the east by the rich lands made available by the government sale of land to build schools in Texas. The area farmers cultivated the land and grew cotton, wheat, and grain sorghum, and raised cattle. The farming community centered around a freshwater spring that became known as Bold Springs. In 1860, Bold Springs had a population of about 300 and provided services such as a blacksmith, churches, and a post office.

The Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad was laid between Hillsboro and Waco in the fall of 1881. The path of the railroad passed through land owned by Thomas West, who had moved to the area in 1859. He farmed land that he had purchased and served as postmaster of Bold Springs. A train depot was built on the land he sold to the railroad company and the land running beside the tracks was divided into small sections and sold to people wanting to start businesses. The new depot included a post office, and from that time forward it was known as the West Post Office. Mr. West served as postmaster and opened the first general store. He became a successful businessman and later owned a hotel, a furniture store, and a bank.

West (Lucinda Williams album)

West is the eighth studio album by Lucinda Williams, her ninth album overall. It was released in 2007 on Lost Highway Records (see ). West is Williams' first studio album since 2003's World Without Tears.

The album debuted at number 14 on the Billboard 200, selling about 57,000 copies that week. According to Nielsen SoundScan the album has sold 250,000 copies in the United States up to October 2008. West was listed No. 18 on Rolling Stone's list of the Top 50 Albums of 2007. "Are You Alright?" was No. 34 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Best Songs of 2007.

The song "Are You Alright?" was featured during the closing scenes of the episode of House ("Fetal Position") which first aired April 3, 2007). The song also appeared in the 4th episode of HBO's True Detective (TV series) which first aired February 9, 2014.

The track "Rescue" was featured on an episode of Brothers and Sisters (season 1, episode 18, first aired April 8, 2007).
