Kuala Lumpur Tower

The Kuala Lumpur Tower (Malay: Menara Kuala Lumpur; Chinese: 吉隆坡塔;abbreviated as KL Tower) is a tall tower located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Its construction was completed on 1 March 1995. It is used for communication purposes and features an antenna that reaches 421 metres (1,381 feet) and is the 7th tallest freestanding tower in the world. The roof of the pod is at 335 metres (1,099 feet). The rest of the tower below has a stairwell and an elevator to reach the upper area, which also contains a revolving restaurant, providing diners with a panoramic view of the city.

Races are held annually, where participants race up the stairs to the top. The tower also acts as the Islamic falak observatory to observe the crescent moon which marks the beginning of Muslim month of Ramadhan, Syawal, and Zulhijjah, to celebrate fasting month of Ramadhan, Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Aidiladha. The tower is the highest viewpoint in Kuala Lumpur that is open to the public.

History

The official groundbreaking for the Kuala Lumpur Tower was overseen by the 4th Prime Minister of Malaysia Dato Seri Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad on 1 October 1991. Construction of the tower was a three-phase process.

KL118

KL118, formerly Warisan Merdeka (English: Heritage of Independence), (Jawi: واريثن مرديکا ), (ไทย : ต่อเสา Tower), is a 118-storey, 644-metre (2,113-foot) megatall skyscraper currently under construction in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Background

The KL118 development is funded by Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), with a budget of RM5 billion.

When completed in 2020, the tower will be the tallest building in Malaysia and 5th tallest in the world, consisting of 400,000 square metres (4,300,000 square feet) of residential, hotel and commercial space, succeeding the 88 storey Petronas Twin Towers.

The building consists of 100 storeys of rentable space, in turn consisting of 80 storeys of office space, 12 storeys of hotel, 5 storeys of hotel residences and a retail business center. The non-rentable space consists of elevators, recreational and maintenance facilities, as well as parking levels for up 5,000 bays. 60 out of the 80 storeys of office space will be reserved for Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), the developer of the project, and its subsidiaries.
