KATC, virtual channel 3, is the ABC-affiliated television station licensed to Lafayette, Louisiana; the station is owned by Cordillera Communications, the television subsidiary of the Evening Post Industries. The station's studios are located on Eraste Landry Road on the city's South side and its transmitter (which became operational on November 6, 2007) is located near Branch, Louisiana.
The station began operations on September 19, 1962, and was locally owned by Acadian Television Company. Conventional wisdom suggested it should have signed on as an NBC affiliate, but instead it took the ABC affiliation full-time. Previously, ABC had been limited to off-hours clearances on CBS affiliate KLFY-TV. This was a very unusual move for a then two-station market, especially one of Lafayette's size. Usually, ABC, as the smallest and weakest network, was relegated to secondary status on one or both of the existing stations. However, Lake Charles' KPLC-TV and Baton Rouge's WBRZ-TV (the latter now a fellow ABC affiliate) provided at least grade B coverage to much of the market. In contrast, no ABC affiliate even put a grade B signal into the area. Acadian Television apparently figured that if it linked up with ABC, it would not get much local competition.
KATC-FM is a radio station in Colorado Springs, Colorado, broadcasting at 95.1 FM. The station has been broadcasting a Country music format since July 2006. Its on air moniker is Nash FM 95.1, and is owned and operated by Cumulus Media.
Originally, the station was locally owned by Harry Hoth's Pikes Peak Broadcasting Company under the call letters KRDO-FM. The station signed on in 1969 broadcasting an easy listening/beautiful music format.
In 1994 KRDO-FM dropped the format due to its decline nationwide and flipped it to adult contemporary and adopted the moniker "Peak 95.1." In 1998 Peak 95.1 evolved into a Hot AC format.
After being purchased by Citadel Broadcasting, Cat Country 95.1 officially began broadcasting on July 1, 2006, stunting by repeatedly playing Brooks & Dunn's "Play Something Country" while temporarily using the its former KRDO-FM call letters. After several days of stunting, the station began its regular mainstream country programming, featuring a complete air staff. The calls were also changed to KATC-FM. Citadel would revive the Peak moniker in late 2006 on sister station 92.9 FM with the new call letters KKPK. The KRDO-FM calls were quickly picked up by station that was formally operated by Pikes Peak Broadcasting and now is operated by News-Press & Gazette Company/Pikes Peak Radio, LLC.
