John Roberts

John Glover Roberts Jr. (born January 27, 1955) is the 17th and current Chief Justice of the United States. He took his seat on September 29, 2005, having been nominated by President George W. Bush after the death of Chief Justice William Rehnquist. He has been described as having a conservative judicial philosophy in his jurisprudence.

Roberts grew up in northwest Indiana and was educated in a private school. He then attended Harvard College and Harvard Law School, where he was managing editor of the Harvard Law Review. After being admitted to the bar, he served as a law clerk for Judge Henry Friendly and then Justice Rehnquist before taking a position in the Attorney General's office during the Reagan Administration. He went on to serve the Reagan Administration and the George H. W. Bush administration in the Department of Justice and the Office of the White House Counsel, before spending 14 years in private law practice. During this time, he argued 39 cases before the Supreme Court. During his two-year tenure on the D.C. Circuit, Roberts authored 49 opinions, eliciting two dissents from other judges, and authoring three dissents of his own. Notably, he represented 19 states in United States v. Microsoft.

John Roberts (journalist)

John D. Roberts (born November 15, 1956) is a Canadian-born television journalist for the Fox News Channel as a national correspondent based in Atlanta.

He joined Fox News in January 2011. Prior to Fox News, Roberts was at CNN where he was an anchor and Senior National Correspondent. He worked at various radio and television jobs before joining CTV in 1990, CBS News in 1992 and CNN in 2007. On March 12, 2009, Roberts was inducted into the Canadian Broadcast Hall of Fame.

Early life

Roberts was born in Toronto, Ontario and grew up in Mississauga, Ontario. He attended Erindale Secondary School and later the University of Toronto at Mississauga.

Career

Local radio

Roberts first started working in radio at the local college station, CFRE-FM in Mississauga. His first professional job was as reporter and news anchor with CFOS in Owen Sound, Ontario in 1975. From there, he went to CHYM in Kitchener, where he worked as a newsman and DJ, then worked on-air for radio station CJBK in London, Ontario in 1977, before moving back to Toronto to join top-40 powerhouse CHUM later that year as a weekday evening disc jockey. 1050 CHUM and CITY-TV gave him the on-air name J.D. Roberts.

John Roberts (writer)

John Roberts (born 28 June 1947) is a British writer specialising in the inter-relationship between energy issues and politics. He currently writes for Platts, a provider of energy and metals information and a source of benchmark price assessments in the physical energy markets.

Life

John Roberts is the youngest son of the poet, Michael Roberts and of Janet Adam Smith. His older siblings are: Andrew Roberts, former Professor of the History of Africa at the University of London, Henrietta Dombey, Professor of Literacy in Primary Education at the University of Brighton, and Sir Adam Roberts, President of the British Academy. He is married to Ann Milnes Roberts.

Career

Trained by Reuters News Agency, from 1978-80 Roberts covered the return of Lebanon to civil war, including the Israeli occupation of Southern Lebanon in March 1978 – Operation Litani. He joined the Middle East Economic Digest in 1980 and was MEED’s U.S. Editor from 1984 to 1988 and then Washington Bureau Chief for Al Hayat Newspaper from 1988-89.

Donald John "John" Roberts (born Feb. 11, 1945) is a Canadian-American economist, and John H. and Irene S. Scully Professor of Economics, Strategic Management and International Business at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Biography

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Roberts received his bachelor's degree from the University of Manitoba in 1967, and his doctorate in economics from the University of Minnesota in 1972. In 2007 he received a Doctor of Laws degree (honoris causa) from the University of Winnipeg.

After graduation he taught at Northwestern University from 1971 until coming to Stanford in 1980. From 1980 until 2001 he held the Jonathan B. Lovelace Professorship at the school. He was a senior associate dean of the Stanford Graduate School of Business in charge of external relations and executive education from 2000 to 2008. and He also is a professor (by courtesy) in the Department of Economics at Stanford, and he directs the Global Management Program and the Center for Global Business and the Economy at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. He was the doctoral thesis advisor for several well known economists, notably John Bates Clark Medal winner Susan Athey.

John Roberts (1929–1992) was the founder of TEST (Transport & Environment Studies) consultancy, London. Roberts was one of the pioneers of sustainable transport planning in the UK. He was one of the first to introduce the idea of traffic calming from continental Europe. Roberts founded TEST in 1972 and led over 150 projects resulting in reports, books, and papers. He advised both Prince Charles and John Prescott amongst others. Prior to founding TEST, Roberts worked as an architect for the Greater London Council, Oxford Polytechnic and Llewelyn-Davies Weeks.
