Just Friends?

Just Friends? (Hangul: 친구사이?; RR: Chingusai?) is a 2009 South Korean short film directed and written by Kim Jho Kwang-soo. It is the second installment in a series of gay-themed short films directed by Kim, following the 2008 film Boy Meets Boy. The film stars Yeon Woo-jin and Lee Je-hoon, who together play a couple that must deal with the issue of coming out.

It premiered at the 14th Pusan International Film Festival on October 10, 2009. Two months later on December 17, Just Friends? was theatrically released in South Korea.

A follow-up to Just Friends?, titled LOVE, 100°C, was released in 2010.

Plot

The film begins with a trot performance by various characters during the opening credits. Seok-i (Lee Je-hoon) anxiously awaits the arrival of his boyfriend Min-soo (Yeon Woo-jin), who has taken leave from the military. Shortly after they reunite, they are met by Min-soo's mother (Lee Seon-joo), who is unaware of their relationship. Seok-i decides to stay with Min-soo and his mother at an inn when he realizes there is no way for him to get back home.

Just Friends

Just Friends is a 2005 American romantic comedy and Christmas film directed by Roger Kumble, and starring Ryan Reynolds, Amy Smart, Anna Faris, Chris Klein and Christopher Maquette. The plot focuses on a successful record executive (Reynolds), formerly an overweight high school nerd, who reconnects with his lifelong romantic crush (Smart) after arriving home in New Jersey with a neurotic pop star (Faris) in his company.

The film revolves around humorous observation of strictly platonic relationships as "just friends" or "just as best friends." It was shot in Regina and Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.

Plot

In 1995, Chris Brander (Ryan Reynolds) is an obese high school student with a lisp, braces, and a "gentle giant" demeanor. He attends the graduation party of his best friend, Jamie Palamino (Amy Smart), whom he secretly has a huge romantic crush on. He plans to confess his feelings by writing them in Jamie's yearbook. When Chris tries to return Jamie's yearbook, it is taken by her despicable ex-boyfriend, Tim (Ty Olsson), who reads the declaration aloud to everyone and humiliates Chris. Jamie doesn't reciprocate his romantic feelings; after they share a brief kiss, Tim and the class burst in and humiliate Chris again. Chris vows to leave town and never return.
