Juice Latham

George Warren "Juice" Latham (September 6, 1852 – May 26, 1914), also known as "Jumbo" Latham, was an American Major League Baseball first baseman and manager. In his career, he played for five different teams in five seasons, while managing two of them.

Career

Latham was born on September 16, 1852, in Utica, New York, and is credited as the first major league player from that town. He first played in professional organized baseball in 1875 for two teams in the National Association, the Boston Red Stockings, and the New Haven Elm Citys.

In 1877 and 1878, he was the first baseman and manager of the Canadian team, the London Tecumsehs of the International Association of Professional Base Ball Players.

He was still playing baseball as late as 1894 when he was playing first base for a team from Richfield Springs, New York. Latham died at the age of 61 in his hometown of Utica.

Jumbo

Jumbo (ca. Christmas 1860 – September 15, 1885) was the first international animal superstar, and the first African elephant to reach modern Europe alive. He was born in East Africa, and captured there by Arabian hunters in early 1862. He was sold first to an Italian animal dealer, then to a menagerie in Germany, and then to the Jardin des Plantes in Paris. Officials of the Jardin traded him to the London Zoological Gardens for a rhinoceros. Jumbo lived in the London Zoo for about 16 years, where he delighted visitors by taking them on trips around the zoo grounds in the howdah on his back.

Jumbo was the biggest elephant in captivity. Due to this, American showman P. T. Barnum wanted Jumbo in his circus, eventually buying the elephant in 1882 for $10,000. Jumbo's sale initiated public outrage in Britain, and drew notice around the world. The British objected to the sale, and wrote letters to Queen Victoria urging that Jumbo remain in London. The courts ruled in Barnum's favor however, and the elephant was shipped to the United States. "Jumbomania", a fad for all things Jumbo, was born at this time. The civilized world was flooded with Jumbo neckties, jewelry, soaps, and other ornaments and souvenirs.

Jumbo (film)

Jumbo is a 2008 Bollywood animation film directed by Kompin Kemgumnird, produced by Percept Picture Company and features the voices of Akshay Kumar, Lara Dutta, Dimple Kapadia, Rajpal Yadav, Asrani, Gulshan Grover, and Yuvraj Singh.It has Yashveer Bains as lead role of Jumbo. The film is an official remake/redubbing of the 2006 Thai film Khan Kluay. The film was dubbed and released in Hindi and the creative direction on the Hindi film was by Mayur Puri. Jumbo released worldwide on Christmas Day 2008, but was met with mixed critical reviews and turned out to be one of the biggest box office disasters of the year. In 2011 A direct to DVD sequel titled Jumbo 2: The Return of the Big Elephant was released.

Kumar was reportedly paid nine crores for the dubbing and two promotional songs.

Plot

The movie starts with Akshay Kumar singing the song "Everything's Gonna Be All Right" for the children in the school. He then begins talking to one child who seems to be depressed. He then narrates the story of Jumbo to this child.

History

In the early 90's, before the creation of Jumbo, Castillo, Charly, Eddie, Chuy Guerra, Javier Othón and René Garza formed a band called "Blueswagen" which played mainly covers of bands like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Doors, Pink Floyd, R.E.M., U2, The Police, Lenny Kravitz, Stone Temple Pilots and Red Hot Chili Peppers. They started gaining more fans and an increasing popularity, which led to playing bars and clubs and recording many demos. BMG obtained one of the demos and started looking for them. Later the band signed with them.
