The Pipettes /pɪˈpɛts/ are a British indie pop girl group formed in 2003 in Brighton by Robert "Monster Bobby" Barry. The group has released two albums, We Are the Pipettes, and Earth vs. The Pipettes and released numerous singles to support it; the most successful being "Pull Shapes" which peaked at No. 26 in the UK Singles Chart.
The group was originally composed of Julia Clarke-Lowes, Rose Elinor Dougall and Rebecca Stephens. However, at the time of their debut album Clarke-Lowes had been replaced by Gwenno Saunders. In 2008, Dougall and Stephens also left the group. By 2010, the line-up consisted of Gwenno Saunders and her sister Ani. Their album Earth vs. The Pipettes was released on 6 October 2010 in the UK.
The female members are backed by an all-male band, The Cassettes, which at present includes Monster Bobby; the Falcone brothers, Jon and Seb; and Alex White.
The Pipettes were formed in mid-2003 by singer-songwriter and promoter Monster Bobby with the intention of reviving the Phil Spector pop sound and giving it a modern twist, after noticing the reaction girl group songs got during his DJ sets. In collaboration with singer, poet, and photographer Julia Clark-Lowes, who was inspired by Bill Drummond and Jimmy Cauty's The Manual, he recruited friends from and around the local music scene. The Pipettes, as they were to become, were all first introduced to each other by Bobby at The Basketmakers Arms in Brighton.

Whodini is a hip hop group that was formed in 1981. The Brooklyn, New York-based trio consisted of vocalist and main lyricist Jalil Hutchins; co-vocalist John Fletcher, aka Ecstasy (who wore a Zorro-style hat as his trademark); and turntable artist DJ Drew Carter, aka Grandmaster Dee.
Whodini was among the first hip hop groups to cultivate a high-profile national following for hip hop music and made significant inroads on urban radio. They were contemporaries of other hip hop groups such as the Fat Boys, Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five, Afrika Bambaataa and Warp 9. The group was managed by Russell Simmons, brother of Joseph “Run” Simmons of Run-D.M.C. The group signed with London-based independent record label Jive Records in 1982; they enjoyed a string of hits for several years, mostly charting on urban and R&B radio stations. The bulk of production on their releases was done by Larry Smith, a bass player who also handled much of Run-D.M.C.'s early work.
In 1983, the group recorded the self titled album Whodini, and its first single "Haunted House of Rock" was a Halloween-themed number that even today is still played in some clubs. Synthpop and Electro pioneer Thomas Dolby helped produce another of its singles, "Mr Magic’s Wand", which was originally conceived as an advertisement for prominent radio jock Mr. Magic, who worked for New York’s WBLS radio. "Magic's Wand" also has the distinction of being one of Whodini's most-sampled songs.
Whodini is the self-titled debut album by the hip-hop group Whodini. It was released in 1983 on Jive/Arista Records and spawned two hit singles: "Magic's Wand" and "The Haunted House of Rock."
I can give you a voice, bred with rhythm and soul
From the heart of a Welsh boy who's lost his home
Put it in harmony let the words ring
Carry your thoughts in the songs we sing
I can give you the force of my ancestral pride
The will to go on when I'm hurt deep inside
Whatever the feeling whatever the way
It helps me to go on from day to day
I can give you my voice bred with rythm and soul
The songs that I love and the stories I've told
I can make you feel good even when I'm down
My force is a platform that you can climb on
