Joy (singer)

Park Soo-young (born September 3, 1996), commonly known by her stage name Joy, is a South Korean singer and entertainer. She is a member of K-pop girl group Red Velvet.

Career

Pre-debut and Red Velvet

As a child, Joy was heavily interested in trot music. In grade school, she performed K-rock band Cherry Filter's Ori Nalda (Korean RR, "Flying Duck") which began her aspiration to become a singer.

In 2012, she auditioned and was cast by S.M. Entertainment at the S.M. Global Audition in Seoul. She was given a stage name by a vocal coach who derived "Joy" from its literal English meaning to represent her usual cheerful disposition. Joy agreed to the name for similar reasons, claiming, "The greatest accomplishment I want to achieve through music is giving ‘Joy’ to others as well." Joy was formally introduced as the fourth member of Red Velvet on July 29, 2014, serving as the group's lead rapper and supporting vocalist. The group made their music debut with the digital single "Happiness" on August 1, 2014.

Joyà

Joyà is a 70 minute long, resident show at the Vidanta resort in the Riviera Maya, Mexico produced as a collaboration between 45 degrees and it's parent company Cirque du Soleil. It is Cirque's first resident show in Latin America. Joya premiered on November 8, 2014 inside the custom-built Joyà theatre, which seats 600 guests at capacity. The exterior design of the theatre was inspired by organic forms in a clearing surrounded by trees. The story, set in a naturalist's library which transforms into other exotic locations, follows the journey of a "rebellious young girl [who] is sent by her mischievous grandfather on a fantastical quest spanning generations".

Unlike other Cirque du Soleil productions, Joya is an "intimate theatrical and culinary experience" in that patrons have the option to enjoy the show along with a specially designed degustation menu at private tables around the stage, or simply have a glass of champagne with canapés on top of the show ticket. The show also incorporates smell into the acts, providing an all-around "feast for the senses".

English singer and songwriter Ellie Goulding has released three studio albums, one remix album, seven extended plays, 23 singles (including six as a featured artist), five promotional singles and 28 music videos. As of June 2013, Goulding had sold three million albums and 10 million singles worldwide. Additionally, she had sold over 1.5 million albums and over 4.3 million singles (including collaborations) in the United Kingdom alone as of February 2014.

After signing to Polydor Records in July 2009, Goulding released her debut extended play, An Introduction to Ellie Goulding, in December of that year. Singer Motors Limited was a British motor vehicle manufacturing business, originally a bicycle manufacturer founded as Singer & Co by George Singer, in 1874 in Coventry, England. Singer & Co's bicycle manufacture continued. From 1901 George Singer's Singer Motor Co made cars and commercial vehicles.

Singer Motor Co was the first motor manufacturer to make a small economy car that was a replica of a large car, showing a small car was a practical proposition. It was much more sturdily built than otherwise similar cyclecars. With its four-cylinder ten horsepower engine the Singer Ten was launched at the 1912 Cycle and Motor Cycle Show at Olympia. William Rootes, Singer apprentice at the time of its development and consummate car-salesman, contracted to buy 50, the entire first year's supply. It became a best-seller. Ultimately Singer's business was acquired by his Rootes Group in 1956, which continued the brand until 1970, a few years following Rootes' acquisition by the American Chrysler corporation.

Singer (2005) is a young-adult fantasy novel by Jean Thesman, based loosely on the Irish legend of the Children of Lir, but having more in common with Thesman's earlier novel The Other Ones, about a young girl coming to terms with her magical powers.

Plot summary

Gwenore for years has been punished and imprisoned by her evil witch mother Rhiamon, but she finally escapes with the aid of her slave-servant Brennan, her friend Tom, and a mysterious and seemingly apostate priest Caddaric. She first takes sanctuary at an abbey, then at an alternative home of gifted women. Along the way, she learns about her natural and her magical gifts in the arts and in healing, as the women become her teachers; from Father Caddaric she finally learns of the spellbound destiny he created for her to combat her wicked mother. She escapes to the kingdom of Lir, where she is made slave-governess of the four children who are to be transformed to swans before Gwenore's ultimate showdown with her mother.
