Josh (2010 film)

Josh is a Bengali film released on 30 July 2010, directed by Ravi Kinagi. It is a remake of Ravi Teja's superhit Telugu film Bhadra released in 2005.

Plot

Indra (Jeet) and Rajib (Anshuman) are the thickest of friends studying in the same college. When Indra comes to the city to visit Rajib, Indra notices Rajib's sister, Anu (Srabanti Chatterjee), and is attracted to her instantly. When Rajib visits his home village, Indra visits along with him. Anu, who returns from Singapore, is impressed by Indra, who continually impresses her, based on her tastes. He gets along well with Rajib's and Anu's family, in the meanwhile convinces them that he would make a prospective groom for Anu.

Anu's family, mainly her brother and cousin, are involved in regional gangs in their village. When Anu takes out Indra to the temple for a visit, without the knowledge of their brother (Tapas Paul), Anu is then attacked by Rudra's brother Nikhil (Bharat Kaul) gets hold of Anu and threatens to kill Anu. In a swift action of bravery and skill, Indra knocks down Rudra's brother.

2010 in film

In the year 2010, there was a dramatic increase and prominence in the use of 3D-technology in filmmaking after the success of Avatar in the format, with releases such as Alice in Wonderland, Clash of the Titans, Jackass 3D, all animated films, with numerous other titles being released in 3D formats.

20th Century Fox celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2010.

Highest-grossing films

These are the top grossing films that were released in 2010.

Toy Story 3 and Alice in Wonderland both grossed more than $1 billion, marking the first time that two films grossed more than $1 billion at the box office in the same year. Even more impressively, both films were released by the same studio—Walt Disney Pictures. Toy Story 3 is the first animated film to gross $1 billion, and is the third highest-grossing animated film ever worldwide (behind Frozen and Minions). Two other films—Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 and Inception—are also among the 50 highest-grossing films of all time. This is also the first time that five animated films have been present in the Top 10 highest-grossing films of the year, and two of them are in the Top 5. The year saw four films debut with more than $100 million, breaking the opening record of 2007 with three releases, and 2004 with two releases.

Film (film)

Film is a 1965 film written by Samuel Beckett, his only screenplay. It was commissioned by Barney Rosset of Grove Press. Writing began on 5 April 1963 with a first draft completed within four days. A second draft was produced by 22 May and a forty-leaf shooting script followed thereafter. It was filmed in New York in July 1964.

Beckett’s original choice for the lead – referred to only as “O” – was Charlie Chaplin, but his script never reached him. Both Beckett and the director Alan Schneider were interested in Zero Mostel and Jack MacGowran. However, the former was unavailable and the latter, who accepted at first, became unavailable due to his role in a "Hollywood epic." Beckett then suggested Buster Keaton. Schneider promptly flew to Los Angeles and persuaded Keaton to accept the role along with "a handsome fee for less than three weeks' work."James Karen, who was to have a small part in the film, also encouraged Schneider to contact Keaton.

The filmed version differs from Beckett's original script but with his approval since he was on set all the time, this being his only visit to the United States. The script printed in Collected Shorter Plays of Samuel Beckett (Faber and Faber, 1984) states:

Lubrication theory

In fluid dynamics, lubrication theory describes the flow of fluids (liquids or gases) in a geometry in which one dimension is significantly smaller than the others. An example is the flow above air hockey tables, where the thickness of the air layer beneath the puck is much smaller than the dimensions of the puck itself.

Internal flows are those where the fluid is fully bounded. Internal flow lubrication theory has many industrial applications because of its role in the design of fluid bearings. Here a key goal of lubrication theory is to determine the pressure distribution in the fluid volume, and hence the forces on the bearing components. The working fluid in this case is often termed a lubricant.

Free film lubrication theory is concerned with the case in which one of the surfaces containing the fluid is a free surface. In that case the position of the free surface is itself unknown, and one goal of lubrication theory is then to determine this. Surface tension may then be significant, or even dominant. Issues of wetting and dewetting then arise. For very thin films (thickness less than one micrometre), additional intermolecular forces, such as Van der Waals forces or disjoining forces, may become significant.

Josh (2009 Kannada film)

Josh or Jhossh(Kannada: ಪ್ರೇಮಿಸಂ) is a 2009 Indian Kannada language romantic film directed and written by Shivamani. Produced by Sanjay Babu under SVP pictures, the film mainly stars debutants Rakesh Adiga, Poorna, Akshay, Nithya Menen, Vishnu Prasanna in the pivotal roles whilst Dwarakish, Achyuth Kumar, Tulasi Shivamani and Sihi Kahi Chandru feature in supporting roles. The music is composed by Vardhan, making his debut and the cinematography is by Santhosh Rai Pathaje.

The film released on 10 April 2009 across Karnataka and went on to become one of the highest grossers at the box-collection for the year. The film garnered both critical appraise and commercial success and paved way for the lead actors success in their careers. The film had a good run over 100 days successfully at cinema halls. The film went on to win the Filmfare Awards in two categories out of 7 nominations at the 57th Filmfare Awards South.

Josh (TV series)

Josh is a British sitcom produced by the BBC and created by and starring Josh Widdicombe. A pilot episode aired in 2014 as part of the BBC "Comedy Feeds", and a full six-episode series aired from 11 November to 16 December 2015. A second series of Josh will be released sometime after BBC Three converts to an online-only channel in February 2016.

Critical reception

In their review of Josh, The Independent commented that there was "nothing original or remarkable about the set-up - or much of the script - but there's promising chemistry between its stars." They pointed out that the main actors were far too old to be convincing 20-something university pals. However, they singled out Edmondson as "very watchable", saying her "comic timing stuck out".

The Arts Desk was scathing about the series, saying "It's horribly bland and it's difficult to see how Josh can avoid suffering the ignominy of lasting only one series".
