Jonathan Moore (born 1932) was United States Director of the Bureau of Refugee Programs from 1987 to 1989 and United States Representative to the United Nations Economic and Social Council from 1989 to 1992.

Biography

Jonathan Moore was born in New York City on September 10, 1932. He was educated at Dartmouth College, receiving a bachelor's degree in 1954 and at Harvard University, receiving an M.P.A. in 1957.

In 1957, Moore joined the United States Information Agency; he was posted in Bombay and later Monrovia. In 1959, he became an assistant to the minority leadership in the United States Senate. He then served as legislative assistant to Senator Leverett Saltonstall (R–Mass.) from 1959 to 1961. In 1961, he joined the United States Department of Defense's Office of International Security Affairs, serving there until 1964, for a time as special assistant to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs. He was special assistant to the Assistant Secretary of State for Far Eastern Affairs from 1964 to 1966. He then spent 1967 to 1968 as foreign affairs adviser on the national campaign staff of Governor of Michigan George W. Romney during the 1968 Republican presidential primaries. After Romney's elimination from the race, he became a foreign policy adviser on the national campaign staff of Governor of New York Nelson Rockefeller. He was briefly executive assistant to the Under Secretary of State in early 1969.

Jonathan Moore (basketball, born 1958)

Jonathan Moore (born November 3, 1957) is an American former basketball player who is best known for his collegiate career at Furman University between 1976–77 and 1979–80. A native of Charleston, South Carolina, Moore finished his career as one of the greatest players in Southern Conference history.

During his four-year tenure at Furman, Moore averaged 16.9 points per game, became one of only three players in conference history to be named First Team All-SoCon four times, was a two-time SoCon Basketball Tournament MVP and was twice named the Southern Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year. He scored 2,299 points and grabbed 1,242 rebounds, placing him on an exclusive list of NCAA Division I men's basketball players to achieve both of those milestones. Through the 2009–10 season, his rebounds total is sixth all-time in conference history, while his points total ranks eighth.

After his collegiate career ended, Moore was selected in the third round (64th overall) in the 1980 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons. However, he never played a game in the league. Moore spent the first season out of college in Italy playing for Nuova Pallacanestro Vigevano with another Furman alumnus, Clyde Mayes. He was hoping to become more NBA-ready by playing a year of professional basketball abroad and then try to make the Pistons' roster for the 1980–81 season, but ultimately it never worked out. Moore played 14 seasons in Finland's Korisliiga from 1983 to 1998.
