John Smith's Brewery

John Smith's Brewery in Tadcaster, North Yorkshire, England, produces beers including John Smith's, the biggest selling bitter in the United Kingdom since the mid-1990s.

The majority of John Smith's sales are of the nitrogenated Extra Smooth product, although a cask conditioned variant is available nationally. A stronger variant called Magnet is also available in the North East of England. John Smith's Cask and Magnet are produced under licence by Cameron's in Hartlepool.

John Smith acquired the Backhouse & Hartley brewery in 1852. Following a series of acquisitions in the post-World War II period, the company became one of the largest regional brewers in the country, operating over 1,800 licensed premises. The company was taken over by Courage in 1970 who extended distribution of the brewery's products into the South of England. Courage was acquired by Scottish & Newcastle in 1995, and the operations were purchased by Heineken in 2008.

John Smith's Extra Smooth and Original are produced at the Tadcaster brewery, as well as a range of Heineken products including Kronenbourg 1664 and Newcastle Brown Ale. With a 3.8 million hectolitre capacity, the brewery is one of the largest in the country.

John Smith (High Sheriff of Kent)

Sir John Smith or Smythe (1557 - 29 October 1608), of Westenhanger, Kent, was an English politician.

He was the eldest surviving son of Thomas Smythe, a London haberdasher who was a collector of customs duties ("customer") and who had bought Westenhanger Castle. His brother was Thomas Smythe, the first governor of the East India Company. John entered Gray's Inn to study law in 1577. He succeeded his father in 1591, inheriting Westenhanger Castle, and was knighted on 11 May 1603.

He was a Justice of the Peace for Kent from 1587 to his death and was appointed High Sheriff of Kent for 1600–01. He was elected a Member of Parliament (MP) for Aylesbury in 1584 and Hythe in 1586, 1587 and 1604. He was the Deputy Governor of the Mines Royal from 1605 to death.

He died in 1608 and was buried at Ashford. He had married Elizabeth, the daughter and heiress of John Fyneux of Herne, Kent, and had 2 sons (one of whom predeceased him) and 6 daughters. His surviving son Thomas was created an Irish peer in 1635, becoming Viscount Strangford.

John Smith (missionary)

John Smith (1790–1824) was a missionary whose experiences in the West Indies attracted the attention of the anti-slavery campaigner, William Wilberforce. As a result of his actions, trial by court martial and subsequent death whilst under imprisonment, Smith became known as the "Demerara Martyr". His case, and news of the enormous size of the uprising and the brutal loss of African life, caused a great awakening in England, strengthening the abolitionist cause which eventually succeeded in British territories worldwide in 1838.

Biography

Smith was born an orphan on 27 June 1790 in Northamptonshire. He received his early education only at Sunday school, and trained to be a baker, after which he applied to be a missionary. He married Jane Godden. On 12 December 1816 he was ordained at Tonbridge Chapel.

Smith arrived in Demerara under the auspices of the London Missionary Society on 23 February 1817. He lived at the 'Le Resouvenir' plantation, where he preached at Bethel Chapel, primarily attended by African slaves.

Peanuts & Corn is a Canadian independent record label, releasing hip hop recordings since 1994. They have also been a distributor of Canadian hip hop releases since 2002.

Founded in Brandon, Manitoba by Rod Bailey AKA mcenroe, the label has since relocated to, first Winnipeg, Manitoba, and later Vancouver, British Columbia, where it is now based. To date, there have been over 40 releases on Peanuts & Corn, and many more on affiliated and subsidiary labels throughout Canada and the world.

As of summer 2005, Peanuts & Corn remains active in the Canadian hip hop music scene, along with sister company Breadwinner Music Group.

The Smith's Snackfood Company is a British-Australian company best known for its potato crisps. It is owned by the American multinational corporation PepsiCo. The company produces and markets various snack foods. Smith's Snackvend Stand is the branch of the company that operates vending machines.

Smith's Potato Crisps Ltd. was formed by Frank Smith and Jim Viney in the United Kingdom after World War I. The firm started in Cricklewood, London, reputedly in Smith's garage. In 1927 the company expanded into a factory in Brentford, London, which was enlarged in 1930. During the depression Smith travelled to Australia to expand the business. The company nearly went under during this time and had to be propped back up by a small number of visitors and investors. The company bounced back and expanded its brands, aided with the help of advancing technology. Smiths was later owned by biscuit company Nabisco, BSN and finally sold to American company PepsiCo in the 1990s. Subsequently Pepsico withdrew the brand, in favour of popular British brand Walkers, which had been heavily marketed in a campaign using ex-footballer turned television presenter Gary Lineker. Many of the products previously owned by Smiths became labelled as Walkers, although there are still several Smiths branded crisps.

Rhino Linings 350

The Rhino Linings 350 is a 350 kilometres (220 mi) NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race that takes place at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The race is 146 laps around the track.

History

LVMS did not host a truck race in 2000.

In 2011, the race was moved to October as part of the IndyCar weekend and becomes an afternoon race.

In 2012, the race was originally set for October 13 at 12 noon PDT as part of the IndyCar weekend, but Indy Racing League LLC faced issues from the 2011 IZOD IndyCar World Championship, with Truck race being that race's Saturday event, but the IndyCar race was removed as a result of legal issues following the death of Dan Wheldon on Lap 11 of the IndyCar race. As a result, it moved back to late September as a stand-alone race and returned to nighttime.
