John O'Shea

John Francis O'Shea /oʊˈʃeɪ/ (born 30 April 1981) is an Irish footballer, who plays as a defender for Sunderland and the Republic of Ireland national team, where he serves as captain and vice-captain respectively. He is known for his versatility in playing several positions on either side of the pitch or the centre.

Born in Waterford, O'Shea joined Manchester United when he was 17. He spent loan spells at Bournemouth and Royal Antwerp before establishing himself in the Manchester United first team, going on to make almost 400 appearances in all competitions over 10 years. O'Shea won 15 trophies at United, including five Premier League titles, one FA Cup, three Football League Cups, the UEFA Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup while at Manchester United. He joined Sunderland in July 2011.

O'Shea made his Republic of Ireland debut in 2001 against Croatia and has since gone on to make over 100 appearances for his country, scoring three goals, his first in 2003 against Australia. He was part of the team that controversially lost to France in a play-off for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and went on to play in UEFA Euro 2012.

John O'Shea (director)

John Dempsey O'Shea, OBE (20 June 1920 – 8 July 2001) was a New Zealand independent filmmaker; he was a director, producer, writer and actor.

He was active from 1940 to 1970, and in 1952 set up Pacific Films in Wellington with Roger Mirams. He produced numerous short films and the three New Zealand feature films made in that period: Broken Barrier (1952) with Roger Mirams, Runaway (1964), and Don't Let It Get You (1966) for which he is most remembered.

He was involved with the Tangata Whenua television documentary series (1974), and in the 1980s with Pictures (1981), Among the Cinders (1983), Leave All Fair (1985) and Ngati (1987). He appeared in the spoof Forgotten Silver (1995).

He was a lecturer, research historian, and assistant film censor and was a founding member of the New Zealand Film Archive in 1981.

He was born in New Plymouth, and served in the New Zealand Army in the Pacific and Italy in World War II. He married (Jean) Cormie Douglas in 1946; and had three children who followed in his footsteps: Kathy, Pat and Rory.

John O'Shea graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Lawrence University and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Cincinnati. He then served as an intern and resident in Internal Medicine at the State University of New York Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY.

Career

John J. O'Shea, M.D., graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Lawrence University, and received a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Cincinnati. He then served as an intern and resident in Internal Medicine at the State University of New York Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. He came to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in 1981 for subspecialty training in Allergy and Immunology in the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. He did additional postdoctoral work in the Cell Biology and Metabolism Branch in the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. Dr. O’Shea is board certified in Internal Medicine and Allergy and Immunology.

O'Shea (band)

O’Shea is a country music duo formed by husband and wife team Mark O’Shea (born 16 February 1977) and Jay O’Shea (née Smith). Since relocating to Nashville, TN in 2007, the duo has seen success not only as artists, but also as songwriters, and finalists in the Country Music Television series Can You Duet.

Early careers

Individually Mark and Jay have both seen success as independent artists as their career has taken them across the globe. Originally from Dalby, Queensland Mark had begun his musical career at an early age by winning the Gympie Music Muster talent competition which led to a record deal he signed at age 17. His debut album earned Mark two Golden Guitar awards from the CMAA for Best New Talent of the Year (1996) for the track "The Swimming Song" and Best Video (1997) for "The Dreamer". Eventually Mark left his solo career to form rock/pop group Zinc that signed with Los Angeles-based label, Trauma. The band's first single released in Australia, "The Morning After" (co-written with Mark Hudson), reached No. 22 on the ARIA Charts in 2004. In 2006, Mark toured as a guitarist for artist Ronn Moss and also had his own song "When We Kissed" recorded and released on Moss' Uncovered album in 2005.
