John Kennedy (third baseman)

John Edward Kennedy (born May 29, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American former Major League Baseball third baseman, shortstop and second baseman. He played from 1965 to 1974 for the Washington Senators, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Yankees, Seattle Pilots, Milwaukee Brewers, and Boston Red Sox.

Major League career

Kennedy spent twelve seasons in the major leagues. He hit a home run in his first major league at bat (on September 5, 1962, against Dick Stigman of the Minnesota Twins), and garnered headlines because both his name and birthdate, May 29, were shared with the President of the United States at the time, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, who was born 24 years earlier.

His only season as a full-time regular was with the 1964 Washington Senators under manager Gil Hodges, primarily as a third baseman, but also playing at shortstop and second base. Kennedy hit .230 with seven home runs and 35 runs batted in. After the 1964 season, he was traded with pitcher Claude Osteen and cash to the Los Angeles Dodgers for five players, including outfielder Frank Howard. With the Dodgers, Kennedy would be part of history when he replaced Jim Gilliam at third base in the eighth inning of Sandy Koufax's perfect game on September 9, 1965. The New York Yankees acquired Kennedy in a trade after the 1966 season, then sold him to the expansion Seattle Pilots after the 1968 season. Kennedy retired in 1974 after four and a half seasons with the Boston Red Sox.

Jack Kennedy (footballer, born 1873)

John "Jack" Kennedy (1873 — after 1902) was a Scottish footballer who played for Glossop North End, Hibernian and Stoke and earned one cap for the Scotland national team.

Career

A native of Edinburgh, Kennedy played at inside-right and began his career with Hibernian, one of the city's two principal clubs. He played for Hibs in the 1896 Scottish Cup Final, a 3–1 defeat by Edinburgh derby rivals Hearts. Kennedy represented Scotland once, in a 1897 British Home Championship match against Wales.

In April 1898 Kennedy moved to English side Stoke who at the time were struggling at the foot of the table. They entered the end of season test matches with Kennedy scoring in the first match against Newcastle United. He also played in the final match against Burnley, both teams went into the match knowing that a draw would see them remain in the First Division and throughout the 90 minutes not a single attempt on goal was made, this led to the introduction of automatic promotion and relegation. Kennedy experienced a far more successful 1898–99 season as Stoke reached the FA Cup semi final for the first time losing 3–1 to Derby County. He remained at Stoke for one more season before joining Glossop North End in 1900.

John Kennedy (puppeteer)

John Kennedy (born November 17, 1968) is a puppeteer who has worked with The Jim Henson Company since 1990. He hails from Plainfield, Indiana. From 1991 until 2003, Kennedy took over Jim Henson's role of Dr. Teeth, after which Bill Barretta took over in 2005. Kennedy has also performed Kermit the Frog in Disney Cruise Line, replacing Steve Whitmire.
