John Bolton (illustrator)

John Bolton (born 23 May 1951, in London, England) is a British comic book artist and illustrator most known for his dense, painted style, which often verges on photorealism. He was one of the first British artists to come to work in the American comics industry, a phenomenon which took root in the late 1980s and has since become standard practice.

Biography

Bolton's introduction to comics came about quite casually after he graduated from East Ham Technical College (whose former alumni include Gerald Scarfe, Barry Windsor-Smith and Ralph Steadman) with a degree in graphics and design.

His first works in Great Britain were for magazines like Look In (alongside other British talents such as Arthur Ranson, Angus P. Allan and Jim Baikie), The House of Hammer and Warrior (edited by Dez Skinn).

In 1981 Marvel Comics' editor Ralph Macchio noticed his work and called him to work for an adaptation of Kull of Valusia for Epic Comics. After illustrating two Kull stories, Bolton began working on the historical-fantasy character Marada, written by Chris Claremont (author of X-Men). This was published by Epic Illustrated one year later.

John Bolton (weightlifter)

John Arthur Bolton (born 22 June 1945) is a former weightlifter for New Zealand. He won two silver medals representing New Zealand at British Commonwealth Games.

He won the silver medal at the 1974 British Commonwealth Games in the men's under 82.5 kg. Four years later at the 1974 British Commonwealth Games he won the silver medal in the men's 110 kg grade.

He represented New Zealand at two Olympic Games, at the 1968 Mexico Olympics and at the 1972 Munich Olympics. His best result was 16th place in the light-heavyweight grade at the 1968 Olympics.

He currently works as a real estate agent in Manukau, Auckland.

John Bolton (born December 29, 1965) is an American actor and Broadway regular. Bolton is best known for originating the role of "The Old Man" (Mr. Parker) in the critically acclaimed Broadway show, A Christmas Story: The Musical, based on the classic 1983 movie A Christmas Story, which itself was based on stories by radio humorist Jean Shepherd. He is currently performing in the Broadway revival of "Dames at Sea".

Career

Bolton's most recently appeared in the Broadway revival of 'Dames at Sea" with Bolton starring as The Captain/Hennesey. Bolton originated the role of "The Old Man" (Mr. Parker) in A Christmas Story: The Musical on Broadway and repeated this starring role in Boston, Hartford and in 2013 at Madison Square Garden. His other theatre credit includes many Broadway musicals that have won the Tony Award including original productions of Curtains with David Hyde Pierce; Spamalot with Tim Curry, David Hyde Pierce, and Sara Ramirez, directed by Mike Nichols; Contact directed by Susan Stroman; and Titanic; and revivals of Damn Yankees with How to Succeed in Business with Matthew Broderick and eventually playing the role of Finch opposite Sarah Jessica Parker.

Bolton (ⁱ/ˈbɒltən/ or locally [ˈbɜʏtn̩]) is a town in Greater Manchester in North West England. A former mill town, Bolton has been a production centre for textiles since Flemish weavers settled in the area in the 14th century, introducing a wool and cotton-weaving tradition. The urbanisation and development of the town largely coincided with the introduction of textile manufacture during the Industrial Revolution. Bolton was a 19th-century boomtown, and at its zenith in 1929 its 216 cotton mills and 26 bleaching and dyeing works made it one of the largest and most productive centres of cotton spinning in the world. The British cotton industry declined sharply after the First World War, and by the 1980s cotton manufacture had virtually ceased in Bolton.

Close to the West Pennine Moors, Bolton is 10 miles (16 km) northwest of Manchester. It is surrounded by several smaller towns and villages that together form the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton, of which Bolton is the administrative centre. The town of Bolton has a population of 139,403, whilst the wider metropolitan borough has a population of 262,400. Historically part of Lancashire, Bolton originated as a small settlement in the moorland known as Bolton le Moors. In the English Civil War, the town was a Parliamentarian outpost in a staunchly Royalist region, and as a result was stormed by 3,000 Royalist troops led by Prince Rupert of the Rhine in 1644. In what became known as the Bolton Massacre, 1,600 residents were killed and 700 were taken prisoner.

Bolton, Connecticut

Bolton is a small rural town in Tolland County, Connecticut, United States. It is primarily residential, with an economy made up primarily of small businesses. The high school typically has between fifty and one hundred students per class. The population is 4,986 as of the 2010 census. Bolton was incorporated in October 1720 and is governed by town meeting.

History

Originally part of the town of Hartford, the area was referred to as Hartford Mountains or Hanover, until incorporation in October 1720. The northern half of Bolton was set aside in 1808 to form the town of Vernon. Quarries played a significant role in the area’s developing economy and Bolton Notch became the location of the small community of Quarryville. Prior to the railroad, granite was taken by oxcart to the Connecticut River where it was the shipped to major cities on the East Coast.

On November 11, 1723, Jonathan Edwards was installed as the pastor of Bolton.

It is widely speculated that in 1781, George Washington stayed at a home in Bolton. Later that year, the French army is confirmed to have passed through the town.
