John Anderson (musician)

John David Anderson (born December 13, 1954, in Apopka, Florida) is an American country musician with a successful career that has lasted more than 30 years. Starting in 1977 with the release of his first single, "I've Got a Feelin' (Somebody's Been Stealin')", Anderson has charted more than 40 singles on the Billboard country music charts, including five Number Ones: "Wild and Blue", "Swingin'", "Black Sheep", "Straight Tequila Night", and "Money in the Bank". He has also recorded 22 studio albums on several labels. His newest album, Goldmine, was released on May 26, 2015, on the Bayou Boys Music label.

Anderson was inducted to the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame on October 5, 2014.

Early career

Raised in Apopka, Florida, Anderson's first musical influences were not country artists, but rock and roll musicians such as Jimi Hendrix and The Rolling Stones. He played in a rock band until the age of 15, when he discovered the music of George Jones and Merle Haggard and turned to country music. Anderson moved to Nashville, Tennessee, in 1971, arriving unannounced at his sister's home, and took on odd jobs during the day - including one as a roofer at the Grand Ole Opry House - while playing in clubs during the evenings.

Extradition case of John Anderson

The Anderson case took place in Canada West from 1860 to 1861. The case dealt with whether or not to extradite an escaped slave to the United States on the charge of murder. The majority of the presiding judges who handled the case agreed that there was sufficient evidence to prove criminality of the extraditable offence. The decision was based upon the terms laid out in article X of the Webster-Ashburton Treaty of 1842. Anderson was released, however, on a technicality.

Background

John Anderson was an African-American slave who escaped to Canada, evading the pursuit of bounty hunters. While on the run he killed a farmer from Howard County, Missouri. Anderson stabbed the farmer, Seneca Digges, who died shortly after. Digges intended to legally recapture Anderson, and ultimately send him back into his master’s custody. Anderson lived and worked in Canada West from 1854 to April 1860, managing to keep a low profile. He was eventually arrested and held by Magistrate William Matthews in Brantford.

John Anderson (born May 16, 1955 in Hibbing, Minnesota) is the head coach of the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers baseball team. In 31 seasons (as of the end of the 2012 season), Anderson has led the Golden Gophers to a record of 1,092 wins, 726 losses and three ties. In the Big Ten he has led Golden Gophers to a record of 493 wins and 289 losses, as of the end of the 2012 season.

Anderson graduated from Nashwauk-Keewatin High School in Nashwauk, Minnesota in 1973. Anderson graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1977 with a B.S. in Education. Anderson and his wife Jan are the parents of daughter Erin Elizabeth.)
