John Albert Morris

John Albert Morris (July 1836 – May 25, 1895) was an American businessman widely known as the "Lottery King" and a prominent figure in the sport of thoroughbred horse racing. A native of New Jersey, he benefited from a large inheritance and added substantially to his fortune through a majority interest in the Louisiana State Lottery Company.

In 1857, he married Cora Hennen, the daughter of Alfred Hennen, a wealthy and prominent judge in New Orleans. The couple had four children:

His father, Francis Morris, was also involved in horse racing, and notably owned Ruthless, the winner of the 1867 Belmont and Travers Stakes. John Morris inherited his father's 25,000-acre (100 km²) ranch in Gillespie County, Texas, fourteen miles (21 km) from the town of Kerrville, where he established a horse breeding operation.

Early life

Albert was born in Reno, Nevada but was raised in Puyallup, Washington. His brother, uncle, and grandfather have all served in the military and are some of Albert's heroes. He moved out of his mother's house before he graduated high school. He attended Gov. John R. Rogers High School, graduating in 2005. After graduation Albert began working as an electrician, earning enough to buy himself a new truck, and helping to afford his living expenses easily. He worked full-time up until the day he left for The Ultimate Fighter.

Early career

Growing up Albert idolized martial arts legends Jackie Chan and Jet Li, claiming he wanted to be a "karate master" just like them. He began taking Tae Kwon Do classes, and received his third level belt before giving it up due to not being able to afford it. In junior high Albert was a part of his school's wrestling team, but did not pursue it during high school like his brother who was a two-time state placer.

John Albert (ice hockey)

John Albert (born January 19, 1989) is an American professional ice hockey player. He is currently playing for the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League (AHL) and is under contract to the Winnipeg Jets of the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 6th round (175th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. Albert was born in Cleveland, Ohio, but grew up in Concord Township, Lake County, Ohio.

Playing career

Prior to turning professional, Albert played NCAA college hockey with Ohio State University.

On July 20, 2011, Albert signed on to play in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the St. John's IceCaps for the 2011–12 AHL season. Albert scored his first NHL goal on December 2, 2013 against Cam Talbot of the New York Rangers, one day after being recalled by the Winnipeg Jets, it was also his first shot on goal in the league.

On June 29, 2015, Albert was given a qualifying offer, in order for the Jets to retain his negotiation rights. Albert was later signed to a AHL contract with the Jet's new affiliate, the Manitoba Moose on September 16, 2015.After attending the Jets training camp on a try-out he was re-assigned to the Moose prior to the start of following season and was subsequently named team captain.

Albert Morris (13 August 1886 in Bridgetown, South Australia – January 1939), was an Australian botanist and conservationist.

Early life

Faced with the depression in the South Australia of the late 1880s, Morris's father sought work in the new mines of the Barrier ranges and moved his family to Broken Hill to live.

Morris spent much of his life in Broken Hill. Early in life, Albert developed a keen interest in plant life. It is possible that a serious injury to his foot in his early childhood which prevented Morris from taking part in the bustle of childhood activity, contributed to his independence and self-containment, and to an increasing interest in botany. By the time he was undertaking technical school studies in metallurgy and assaying, Morris had developed a small garden and nursery, and contributed to the cost of his fees by selling plants (pepper trees) that he had grown. When he qualified, Morris took up work on the Central Mine at Broken Hill, eventually becoming chief assayer for the mine.
