Joey McIntyre

Joseph Mulrey "Joe" McIntyre (born December 31, 1972) is an American singer-songwriter and actor. He is best known as the youngest member of the boy band New Kids on the Block. He has sold over 1 million records worldwide as a solo artist.

Life and career

McIntyre was born in Needham, Massachusetts, the son of Thomas, a union official, and Katherine (Bowen) (died on November 30, 2014, after a long battle with Alzheimer's), a community theater actress. He is the youngest of nine children with older siblings, Judy, Alice, Susan, Tricia, Carol, Jean, Kate, and Tommy, in an Irish-American Catholic family. McIntyre graduated from Catholic Memorial High School in West Roxbury, Massachusetts, an all-male Catholic private school. He shares the same birth date as his sister, Carol. Another sister, Judy, is an actress.

Just before his 13th birthday, he joined New Kids on the Block, replacing Mark Wahlberg. Since the other four members of the band were already long-time school friends, he initially found it difficult to mesh with them. They became one of the most successful boy bands of the late 20th century, producing two number one albums on the US Billboard charts. In 1991, Forbes listed the band as the highest-earning entertainers, beating Madonna and Michael Jackson. They eventually split in 1994.

Famous quotes by Joey McIntyre:

"The last year has just been so good for me. It let me calm down and figure out what I wanted and why I wanted it."
"Of all of them, I just -- maybe because I know them, but I think 'N Sync has -- can maybe transcend that whole boy band thing, you know, because they got a good attitude and a good spirit, and they're talented guys."
"The New Kids took some hits for, you know, not writing their own music. But on a songwriting standpoint, I mean, I'd never written music before when I was in the group, ... Now the music is my music, so it's kind of like my baby, and that was a whole different experience."
"Those English and Scottish know how to do accents."
"Ballroom dancing is like being on Mars compared to what I've done throughout my life."
"The music business has changed incredibly. There used to be 50 record companies. Now there's only three, and it's just getting smaller and smaller. But then again, you have the Internet, so anybody who has music can get it out there."
"It's fun to be a part of pop history. Anytime you can be referenced in that respect it can be cool."
"God forbid we keep a couple secrets in this day and age!"
"I love meeting famous people. I'm even happy just looking at them."
"It's every teenager's dream to be in a band, tour the world and be famous."
"I think a show can work anywhere if it's done honestly, with integrity, and with confidence."
"Being in a rock n' roll and pop world, it's very easy to act like a kid."
"I don't mind being the brunt of a joke, so long as it's a good one."
"You just go for it and see what works. There are no rules."

Walkin My Baby Back Home

by: Joey McIntyre

Last night I saw you and it wasn't enough
It's only been one day and I miss you so much
All I can think of is the look in your eyes
When you told that you loved me
Then you had to say goodbye
Walking my baby back home
I wonder what I got to do to get you alone
Walking my baby back home
Her daddy says I got to have her back before dawn
Remember when I touched you for the very first time
I'll never forget the night you made up your mind
I was so scared to let you know how I feel
Then you opened up to me
Now I know it's for real
I wonder if your daddy really knows
That you love me so
And I'll never let you go
I wonder if he's ever gonna see
What you mean to me
Will he set you free
