Joe Garner

Joseph 'Joe' Alan Garner (born 12 April 1988) is an English professional footballer who plays for Preston North End as a striker.

Club career

Blackburn Rovers

Born in Blackburn, Garner started his career at Premier League club Blackburn Rovers and playing as a striker played in the same position as his namesake Simon Garner, Blackburn's highest-ever goalscorer and club legend during the 1980s and early 1990s. Contrary to some stories, the two are not related. He played for the youth and reserve teams at Ewood Park and was a prolific scorer at youth level, his record including scoring two hat tricks in one game against Manchester United U16. Despite Blackburn having high hopes for the player Garner didn't make the breakthrough into the Blackburn Rovers senior squad due to competition for places in the Blackburn line up with players such as Paul Dickov, Paul Gallagher, Craig Bellamy, Benni McCarthy and Roque Santa Cruz forcing Garner to drop down two divisions in search of regular first team football.

Joe Garner (Joseph Garner) is a former radio executive (Westwood One Radio Networks), American author, and acclaimed keynote speaker who resides in Los Angeles.

Garner spent twenty years working in the radio industry, with over ten of those years employed as an executive with the Westwood One radio network. He contributed to the creation and production of numerous audiobooks for Simon & Schuster. He presides over an entertainment production company, Joe Garner Enterprises, in Los Angeles.

Joe Garner (born 23 June 1969) is the Chief Executive of Openreach, the infrastructure division of BT Group.

Early life

He was born in Hertfordshire, having two older sisters. His father was an aeronautical engineer who had worked at de Havilland, and had married Alegra Mizrahi in 1959.

He studied Geography at Magdalene College, Cambridge.

Career

He was a graduate trainee at Procter & Gamble (P&G) in 1991. He spent nine years at P&G and spent five years in Romania, then worked at their European headquarters in Brussels..

Garner became chief executive of BT's infrastructure division Openreach in February 2014. He will leave the company in April 2016 to become chief executive of Nationwide Building Society. This role will start on April 5th, with current CEO Graham Beale stepping down on April 4th 2016.

Personal life

He married Marzena Supel, a Polish national, and they have a son. He lives in London.

He is Chairman of the British Triathlon Trust.
