James Brady

James Scott "Jim" Brady (August 29, 1940 – August 4, 2014) was an assistant to the U.S. President and White House Press Secretary under President Ronald Reagan. In 1981, Brady became permanently disabled from a gunshot wound during the attempted assassination of Ronald Reagan. Brady became an ardent supporter of gun control as a result of this event. Brady died on August 4, 2014, 33 years after the shooting. His death was ruled a homicide, caused by the gunshot wound he received in 1981.

Early career

Brady began his career in public service as a staff member in the office of Illinois Senator Everett Dirksen (R-IL). In 1964, he was the campaign manager for Wayne Jones of Paris, Illinois in the race for US Congressman in the 23rd District. In 1970, Brady directed a campaign in the 23rd Illinois Congressional District for Phyllis Schlafly.

Brady served various positions in the private sector and in government, including service as Special Assistant to the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, James Thomas Lynn; Special Assistant to the Director of the Office of Management and Budget; Assistant to the Secretary of Defense; and member of the staff of Senator William V. Roth, Jr. (R-DE). He also served as Press Secretary to then-presidential candidate John Connally in 1979.

Jim Brady (quarterback)

James Murphy Brady (August 11, 1907 – January 12, 1984), a grandson of Idaho governor James H. Brady, was an American football player and broadcasting entrepreneur.

After graduating from Pocatello High School in Idaho, Brady tried out for the football team at Notre Dame, but was told by coach Knute Rockne that he was far too small. But over time his persistence paid off, and in 1927 he was named the starting quarterback. Brady was the quarterback for the legendary "Win one for the Gipper" game against Army on November 10, 1928—dramatized in the film Knute Rockne, All American.

After returning to Idaho Falls in 1933, he would join the family business at The Post Register newspaper. After serving in the United States Army in World War II, Brady would found the radio station KIFI in Idaho Falls in 1947, and eventually the television station KIFI-TV. He would serve as president of Upper Valley Cable from 1969 until his death in 1984.

Jim Brady (birth unknown — 1980) born in Dundee was a Scottish professional bantam/feather/lightweight boxer of the 1930s and '40s, who won the British (Southern (England) Area) Bantamweight Title, and British Empire bantamweight title, his professional fighting weight varied from 118 lb (54 kg; 8 st 6 lb), i.e. bantamweight to 129 lb (58.5 kg; 9 st 3.0 lb), i.e. lightweight.
