Jessica Adams

Jessica Adams, M.D., is a fictional character on the Fox medical drama House and is portrayed by Odette Annable.

The character worked at the prison where House was incarcerated after he crashed his car into Cuddy's living room. She met House in the eighth season premiere episode "Twenty Vicodin" and joined his diagnostic team in the third episode.

Character background

In "Twenty Vicodin", it is revealed that Adams is from "old money" (a wealthy family) and did her residency at Johns Hopkins Medical School. It is clear by "Charity Case" that she has no money concerns whatsoever as she buys expensive shoes and gives gifts even when she's out of work. In "Perils of Paranoia", Chase suspects that Adams enjoys shooting firearms; this is confirmed in "Runaways", when she wins a bet with House by shooting a clay pigeon with a single shotgun shell.

As a junior in high school, she ran away from home because she was the only person she knew whose parents weren't divorced or having an affair and she figured that the lives of dysfunctional families were somehow "deeper". She lived with an older man in Manhattan for two months before returning home.

Jessica (novel)

Jessica is a historical novel based in real facts by Bryce Courtenay. It was published in 1998 and like other works from Courtenay covers several years in the life of the main character: Jessica Bergman. It was adapted into a mini-series starring Leeanna Walsman and Sam Neill which aired on Australian television in 2004. Jessica was voted Best Mini Series at the 2004 Chicago International Film Festival. It twice won the APA Who Weekly Reader's Choice Award, in 1999 and 2000.

Plot

Jessica is a tomboy, raised to be her father's son to help out on the farm. Her older sister Meg is very much her mother's daughter, and it is Meg's and their mother's mission for Meg to seduce Jack Thomas, the town's wealthiest eligible bachelor. Jessica and her dad work each year shearing at Riverview station for the Thomases - the richest family in the district. In the shearing shed, Jessica becomes close friends with Jack Thomas and William D'arcy Simon. Jessica is teased by the other boys, predominanly for simply being female. Eventually she is attacked, with tar poured over her head and hair. Jack and William defend her, but William is stepped on by a horse, causing brain damage and earning him the name Billy Simple. Subsequently, Jessica and Jack's relationship blossoms and they become Billy's sole friends.

Jessica (Elliot Minor song)

"Jessica" is the second single from York-based rock band Elliot Minor. It was released on August 6, 2007. The band wrote this song out of their affection for Jessica Alba. The song was originally called "Walk With Me".

This was Elliot Minor's breakthrough single, and was one of the most popular singles during that period.

The music was written by Alex Davies, with lyrics by Davies, Ed Minton, and Dan Hetherton.

In the music video, the band plays in the crypt of a church, dressed in black clothing. The video starts and ends with a shot of Alex Davies' (lead vocals, guitar) eye opening and closing.

Adams (automobile)

The Adams was an English automobile manufactured in Bedford, England, between 1905 and 1914.

American-born Edward R. Hewitt had helped Sir Hiram Maxim to build a large steam plane in 1894. He later designed a "gas buggy" along the lines of an Oldsmobile; this machine was built by the Adams Manufacturing Company. The Adams had a supposedly foolproof epicyclic transmission with a 10 hp (7.5 kW) single-cylinder engine. Indeed, "Pedals to push, that's all" was used as the marque's slogan. Hewitt eventually returned to the United States to manufacture similar cars under his own name, after which more conventional shaft-driven cars with vertical engines were produced (beginning in 1906). Models offered included two- and four-cylinder ones and one of the first British V-8s; this last had a 35/40 hp (26/30 kW) engine based on the French Antoinette model (an aeroengine for which Adams were agents). But the V-8 was plagued by crankshaft breakages. In 1910, the company produced an advanced 16 hp (12 kW) model with front-wheel brakes; it came with compressed-air starting, tire-inflating, and jacking equipment. The "pedals-to-push" gear was still offered, as was a conventional four-speed transmission and an unusual planetary gearchange (three-speed), which was operated by a pedal that moved in a gate. The company folded for good in 1914.

Adams Crater is an impact crater in the Cebrenia quadrangle of Mars, located at 31.1°N latitude and 197.0°W longitude. It is 94.9  km in diameter and was named after Walter Sydney Adams, and the name was approved in 1973 by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) Working Group for Planetary System Nomenclature (WGPSN).
