Jerome Booth

Jerome Paul Booth (born July 1963) is a British economist, author, emerging markets investor and Chairman of New Sparta. He was previously Head of Research at emerging market asset manager Ashmore Group plc. He is also the principal shareholder of Icon Film Distribution UK.

Early life

Jerome Booth received a Bachelor of Science in Geography from the University of Bristol. He then received an MPhil and DPhil from the University of Oxford.

Career

Booth started his career at the Department of Trade and Industry, where he was responsible for multi-lateral development banks, before being appointed a strategic planning officer at the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington DC. During this period, Booth was also a lecturer in Economics at Christ Church, Oxford.

In 1994, Booth joined ANZ as Head of Research for the Emerging Markets Group before being appointed Head of Market Research for ANZ Investment Bank with global responsibility for fixed-income and foreign exchange research.

In 1999, Booth was part of the management buy-out of ANZ Investment Bank that established Ashmore Group plc, the emerging market asset management firm, and was appointed Head of Research and spokesperson. The team bought ANZ Emerging Market Fund Management, which had approximately $500m in assets, and listed it on the London Stock Exchange.

Jerome

Saint Jerome (/dʒəˈroʊm/; Latin: Eusebius Sophronius Hieronymus; Greek: Εὐσέβιος Σωφρόνιος Ἱερώνυμος; c.  347 – 30 September 420) was a priest, confessor, theologian and historian, who also became a Doctor of the Church. He was the son of Eusebius, born at Stridon, a village near Emona on the border of Dalmatia and Pannonia, then part of northeastern Italy. He is best known for his translation of most of the Bible into Latin (the translation that became known as the Vulgate), and his commentaries on the Gospels. His list of writings is extensive. The protégé of Pope Damasus I, who died in December of 384, Jerome was known for his teachings on Christian moral life, especially to those living in cosmopolitan centers such as Rome. In many cases, he focused his attention to the lives of women and identified how a woman devoted to Jesus Christ should live her life. This focus stemmed from his close patron relationships with several prominent female ascetics who were members of affluent senatorial families.

Jerome (given name)

Jerome is a masculine name of Greek origin, derived from the Greek given name Ἱερώνυμος, Hierōnymos, "sacred name"; from ἱερός, hierós, "sacred", and ὂνυμα, ónyma, an alternative form of ὄνομα, ónoma, "name".

It is the name of a prominent Christian saint, Saint Jerome, the translator of the Vulgate.

Jerome ranked among the top 200 names given to boys born in the United States between 1903 and 1985. It has since declined in popularity and was ranked as the 616th most popular name for American boys born in 2008.
