Jay Inslee

Jay Robert Inslee (born February 9, 1951) is an American politician and lawyer who has served as the 23rd Governor of Washington since January 2013.

Born in Seattle, Inslee graduated from the University of Washington and the Willamette University College of Law. He served in the Washington House of Representatives from 1989 to 1993 and then represented Washington's 4th congressional district, which included parts of the state around Yakima, in the United States House of Representatives from 1993 to 1995. Defeated for re-election in the Republican Revolution of 1994, Inslee returned to private practice and then ran for Governor in the 1996 election, coming fifth in the blanket primary ahead of the general election, which was won by Democrat Gary Locke. Inslee then served as regional director for the United States Department of Health and Human Services under President Bill Clinton.

Inslee returned to the House of Representatives in 1999, this time for Washington's 1st congressional district, which included Seattle's northern suburbs in King, Snohomish, and Kitsap counties. He announced that he was running for Governor again on June 27, 2011, and he resigned from Congress on March 20, 2012, in order to focus on his campaign. He defeated Republican Rob McKenna, the Attorney General of Washington, in the general election by 52% to 48%.

Famous quotes by Jay Inslee:

"[Washington State Democrat Jay Inslee brought an enlarged photo of the bald eagle to the House floor.] What is a fish without a river? What is a bird without a tree to nest in, ... This isn't modernization of the act. It's euthanasia of the act."
"They want to give away the taxpayers' gold. If somebody went to Fort Knox and took gold out, they'd be in jail for the rest of their lives. But in national forests, people can take gold (under the bill) and be considered friends of the Republican Party."
"This is a gross and disturbing violation of the commitment to keep water healthy in the straits and Puget Sound."
"It does not appear that there is a single inspector general who is in full charge of seeing that these monies are wisely spent."
"There's been a dramatic change in climate since before Christmas. It's shifted people. Some majority-party members are thinking twice about this bill."
"I found your study to be critical ... and there is evidence that logging may have some consequences we may not fully understand."
"We cannot allow telecommunications companies to hijack the Internet. After all, the beauty of the Internet is its open architecture."
"[Pombos bill is] not modernizing the Act, it is euthanizing it, ... It is putting it down with the guise of kindness, with the guise of making it stronger."
"The abuses and failures we've seen in Iraq -- we don't want to duplicate those here at home,"
"It is a happy coincidence between what my constituents believe and my interests."

It Just Takes Practice

by: Jeannie Seely

I'll get over you before too long just wait and see
And I won't need you any more than you need me
You just can't be that important my life can't be over yet
And I'm sure it just takes practice to forget
They say practice makes perfect well I'll just practice every day
My hurt is big but not so big that I can't make it go away
Someday I'll stop remembering although I haven't yet
