Nini Camps (born in Miami, Florida) is an American folk rock singer-songwriter, who writes music for film and TV while also performing as lead singer of the all female band Antigone Rising. She currently lives with her family in New York City.
Born and raised in Miami Fl, Nini Camps currently calls NYC home. As a solo artist, and making her way into the NYC music scene, Nini could be found any given night either behind the bar (under the bar) or cutting her teeth playing in clubs like The Bitter End, The Mercury Lounge and The Living Room. Self-promotion, hard work and a good bit of luck lead to 3 independent releases, national tours with artists such as Los Lonely Boys, a stint at Madison Square Garden with Joan Osborne and a stadium tour as an ambassador to the US during the 2006 World Cup games in Germany.
As a songwriter, Camps won Billboard's Songwriter Award and was Spin's Top 5 Singer/Songwriter for her self-released album "So Long". In 2005, signing with Cherry Lane Music Publishing was a dream come true and allowed for a change of focus from road warrior to in-house songwriter. The transition was a much needed break from touring and developing the discipline of writing for other artists, film and TV was, and continues to be, an exciting challenge. With over 50 TV, commercial and film placements (including songs on Brothers and Sisters, Castle, Pretty Little Liars, The Hills, Army Wives Degrassi: The Next Generation which features an unreleased song “Come Away” at the end of episode "Lost in Love Part 2", Pantene, Paseo Paper, Sydney White and end credits for Ramona and Beezus), Nini continues to write and record in NYC and her home studio. After Cherry Lane closed its doors, Nini has since found a new Music Publishing family with Razor and Tie.
January, 1979.
Saw a terrible crash and i couldn't help but laugh,
As my ear pressed against the past like a glass on a wall of a house in a photograph.
My forehead no longer sweet with holy kisses worthy of your fiery lips.
I was floating in a peaceful sea 'rescued' by a sinking ship.
If I could become the servant of all, no lower place to fall. (If could be your servant)
If I could become the servant of all, no lower place to fall. (If I could be your servant)
If I could become the servant of all, no lower place to fall. (If could be your servant)
If I could become the servant of all, no lower place to fall. (If I could be your servant)
You watch me like a ten car highway wreck with detached, vulgar curiosity.
This looking down at the tops of the hats of us passers-by from your 7th floor balcony.
From such a height you missed creatures too small for sight carry on covert conversations.
And the misguided insects crown me their grasshopper king with a dance of celebration.
After years with a crown on my head, I've grown overfed, unconcerned and comfortably numb.
Kept busy indulging in the pleasures of the wealthy.
(Someone make me afraid of what I've become!)
At the first sign of possible sorrow, I turned my heels and ran.
(Oh, I'll never learn.)
My life is a cup of sugar I've borrowed before time begain and forgot to return.
It was a matter of time--I always said I could see so now I'm going blind. (I could be your servant)
It was a matter of time--I always said I could see so now I'm going blind. (If I could be your servant)
It was a matter of time--I always said I could see so now I'm going blind. (I could be your servant)
It was a matter of miserable time-- but I heard somewhere there was a cure for useless eyes? (If I could be your servant)
