Jane's Addiction

Jane's Addiction is an American rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1985. The band consists of Perry Farrell (vocals), Dave Navarro (guitar), Stephen Perkins (drums) and Chris Chaney (bass).

Founded by Farrell and bass guitarist Eric Avery, following the disintegration of Farrell's previous band Psi Com, Jane's Addiction was one of the first bands from the early 1990s alternative rock movement to gain both mainstream media attention and commercial success in the United States. Jane's Addiction launched with a live self-titled debut album in 1987 and quickly caught the attention of Warner Bros. Records. The band's following first two major-label studio albums, Nothing's Shocking (1988) and Ritual de lo Habitual (1990), were released to widespread critical acclaim, and an increasing cult fanbase. As a result, Jane's Addiction became icons of what Farrell dubbed the "Alternative Nation". The band's initial farewell tour, in 1991, launched the first Lollapalooza, which has since become a perennial alternative rock festival.

Jane's Addiction (album)

Jane's Addiction, also known as Triple-X or XXX, is the debut album by Jane's Addiction. The band opted to record their debut album live in an attempt to better capture the energy they were known for. The album's basic tracks were recorded live at the Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles on January 26, 1987, with additional overdubs and corrections added at The Edge Studio in Los Angeles, including an audience applause dub from a Los Lobos concert.

Music

The basic tracks for the album were recorded live over a single night in Los Angeles with additional recording and overdubs done later, in studio. Many of the songs from the album would later be re-recorded for other releases. Of the band-written songs on the album, only four ("Trip Away," "1%," "I Would For You," and "My Time") have not been re-recorded and re-released, although an alternate studio demo cut of "I Would For You" was released on the 1991 compilation album Live and Rare. This version was recorded in 1986, however, and predates the Jane's Addiction album.

Jane's Information Group

Jane's Information Group (often referred to as Jane's) is a British publishing company specialising in military, aerospace and transportation topics. It was acquired in 2007 by IHS Inc., and its open-source intelligence databases and publications continue to be produced under the IHS Jane's and IHS brands.

History

Jane's was founded in 1898 by Fred T. Jane who had begun sketching ships as an enthusiast naval artist while living in Portsmouth. This gradually developed into an encyclopaedic knowledge, culminating in the publishing of All the World's Fighting Ships (1898). The company then gradually branched out into other arenas of military expertise. The books and trade magazines published by the company are often considered the de facto public source of information on warfare and transportation systems.

Based in London for most of its existence, Jane's Information group was acquired by IHS Inc. in June 2007, having previously been owned by The Woodbridge Company and before that The Thomson Corporation for a number of years. Major periodical competitors include Defense News, Flight International, Aviation Week & Space Technology and the Shephard Group. The company continues to provide open-source intelligence in the defence, security, aerospace and transportation sectors.
