Jamie Freeman

Jamie Freeman is a singer, songwriter, musician and producer who fronts The Jamie Freeman Agreement. He is the brother of the actor Martin Freeman (The Hobbit, Sherlock, The Office) and the musician Tim Freeman (Frazier Chorus). He and his wife Stevie co-founded Union Music Store in Lewes, East Sussex. He is a member of the Americana Music Association (Nashville) and Americana Music Association UK.

Freeman's primary instrument is guitar but he is also a drummer. He started drumming at the age of 13 and played with Brighton alt.country rockers Salter Cane for eight years. He usually plays electric and acoustic guitar with The Jamie Freeman Agreement, and occasionally mandolin. In the studio he also plays keyboards, bass, lap steel and percussion.

He played with Frazier Chorus as a member of the touring band, and performed on their third album Wide Awake, released on the Pure label.

Two songs on Freeman's second album were co-written with Amy Tudor, a poet from Kentucky.

Background

Aaron Freeman left Ween in May 2012. He played shows both solo and accompanied by Joe Young from 2012-2014. After moving to Woodstock, New York and teaching at Paul Green's School of Rock, Freeman began working on material for a new album. He assembled musicians from the Brooklyn, New York area as well as North Carolina to record the album for Partisan Records. The new band, "Freeman" hit the road in July 2014 in support of the album. The live version of Freeman featured Joe Young on bass and Zach Tenorio-Miller on keyboards, along with Chris Boerner and Kyle Keegan, who played on the album. Freeman was produced by Chris Shaw who had previously produced Ween's White Pepper album.

Reception

Freeman received generally favorable reviews from critics. AllMusic's Stephen Thomas Erlewine wrote, "If anything, Freeman is a tighter record than McCartney -- it's not homemade, it's all complete songs -- but there's no denying it shares the same spirit; that it is the sound of breaking dawn of a new day."

Aaron Freeman quit Ween in May 2012, citing his desire to stop his long-time drug and alcohol addiction. He played shows accompanied by Joe Young from 2012 until 2014, when he formed a new band, "Freeman," featuring Chris Boerner on guitar, Brad Cook on bass, Dave Godowsky on keyboards and Kyle Keegan on drums. The band's self-titled debut was released July 22, 2014 on Partisan Records. The band spent the second half of 2014 on the road (although with Young on bass) with Arc Iris. Arc Iris keyboardist Zach Tenorio-Miller also played with Freeman for most of these shows.

Originally there were four brothers (although Malcolm's oldest brother attended a military school away from home, so Malcolm was still the middle sibling left at home). A fifth son was introduced in the show's fourth season, a boy named Jamie. The boys are, from eldest to youngest: Francis, Reese, Malcolm, Dewey, and Jamie. In the final episode, Lois discovered she was pregnant with a sixth child. In the third season, Francis travels home (to celebrate his father's birthday) with an Alaskan girl named Piama, and reveals that they are married.

During the first season, the writers decided to keep the family's last name a mystery. In the fifth season episode "Reese Joins the Army (1)", Reese uses a fake ID by the name of "Jetson" to lie about his age. In the series finale, "Graduation", Francis' employee ID reads "Nolastname" (or "No Last Name", a joke referring to the fact that the family name was never spoken aloud). In the same episode when Malcolm was introduced to give the graduation speech, the speaker announces Malcolm's name, but microphone feedback makes his surname inaudible, even though he does appear to mouth the phrase "No last name".
