Reid Scott

Reid Scott (born October 23, 1926) is a retired lawyer and provincial judge in Canada, and a former New Democratic Party of Member of Parliament for the Danforth electoral district, in Toronto, from 1962 to 1968, leaving federal politics when his riding disappeared due to redistribution. He had previously served as the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for the Beaches constituency from 1948 to 1951. He returned to politics in 1969 as a Toronto city alderman.

When he was elected to the Ontario legislature in the 1948 provincial election he was the youngest MPP ever at the age of 21. Scott, a law student at the time, defeated 22 year incumbent Thomas Alexander Murphy.

Scott played a role in the "Great Flag Debate". Serving on the all-party committee charged with recommending a new flag, Scott successfully lobbied Social Credit and Créditiste MPs to back the Maple Leaf flag as it did not have "symbols of the past". His efforts secured a majority on the committee in favour of what became the new flag.Reid is now the only surviving member of the Parliamentary Committee that selected the design of the new flag.

Reid Scott (born November 19, 1977) is an American actor. He is best known for his role as Brendan 'Brando' Dorff on the television show My Boys and for his role as Deputy Director of Communications Dan Egan on HBO's Veep.

Early life

Scott was born on November 19, 1977, in Albany, New York, and attended Syracuse University before moving to New York City to pursue his acting/writing career.

Career

After began his career with roles in the off-Broadway play Cargo and several television commercials. In 2002 he won the lead role in the Fox pilot With You in Spirit, for which he received his Screen Actors Guild card. Scott recalls, "I remember thinking that the money from the pilot was a fortune. It wasn't. After renting a card to get around L.A., paying off some debt and maybe buying a new pair of shoes, I was broke. I had to borrow money from my father just to join SAG."

Since then he has appeared television and film, most notably My Boys, an original series on TBS. He appeared in an episode of Bones, on The Secret Life of the American Teenager as Dr. Jeff Tseguay, as Mike in Motorcity, and in CSI:NY as Seth Riggin (Season 4, Episode 14). Scott joined the cast of Showtime's The Big C in 2010. He played Dr. Todd Mauer, oncologist for the main character (played by Laura Linney). He appeared on the big screen in films such as Amusement and Losing Control.

James Reid (footballer, born 1879)

James Reid (born 18 November 1879 – 1976) was a Scottish footballer. An inside-forward, he played for Petershill, Hibernian, Port Vale, West Ham United, Gainsborough Trinity, Worksop Town, Notts County, Watford, Tottenham Hotspur, Reading, and New Brompton. He played in the Scottish Football League First Division, the Football League (both the First Division and Second Division), the Southern League, the Midland League, and the Western League.

Playing career

Reid played his early football with Petershill, before moving on to First Division club Hibernian. He made his scoring debut for "Hibs" on 3 September 1898, in a 4–1 win at Partick Thistle. He went on to score three goals in eight league and cup appearances in 1898–99.

Reid left Easter Road and moved south of the border to sign with Second Division side Port Vale in July 1899. He scored his first goal in the Football League in a 1–0 win over Walsall at Fellows Park on 21 October. He scored five goals in 25 appearances in the 1899–1900 season, before coming down with an injury in December 1899.

James Reid (sport shooter)

James Reid (8 March 1875 – 19 March 1957) was a British sport shooter who competed in the 1912 Summer Olympics.

In 1912 he won the silver medal with the British team in the team military rifle competition. In the 600 metre free rifle event he finished 13th.
