The James automobile company (called the J&M Motor Car Company) was created in 1909 by H. K. James.

History

The first car, called a Model A, was tested on April 2, 1909 on a 100 mile test run. A reporter wronte that the James "will climb and ordinary hill with two or four passengers." The Model A was a highwheeler and cost between $700 and $800. Production was minimal, and in 1911 the company quit production of the car for a larger car called the Dearborn. It lasted one year.

Berwick (pronounced BURwick or, more recently, BErrick) is a village and civil parish in the Wealden district of East Sussex in England. The village lies immediately to the south of the A27 road between Lewes and Polegate, about three miles (4.8 km) west of the latter. The parish is located in the River Cuckmere floodplain, north of the South Downs.

The place-name 'Berwick' is here first attested in the Domesday Book of 1086, where it appears as Berewice. The name means 'corn farm'.

There are two public houses in the parish: the Berwick Inn near the railway station, and the The Cricketers, in the village itself. The village also has an example of a "K6" red telephone box.

Berwick Church

Part of the United Benefice of Arlington, Berwick, Selmeston-with-Alciston and Wilmington, the church dedicated to St Michael and All Angels, is a Grade 1 listed building. Built on what may be a pre-Christian sacred site, the church dates back at least to the 12th century, although the Saxon frontage appears to be earlier. Additions were made in the 14th century, and a tower built in 1603, originally with a spire. The building suffered in the 18th century, losing its spire to lightning on 8 August 1773.

Berwick, Louisiana

Berwick is a town in St. Mary Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 4,946 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Morgan City Micropolitan Statistical Area.

V.J. Bella, state representative from St. Mary Parish from 1972–1990, was known as a legislative fiscal watchdog. Prior to his legislative service, Bella was the fire chief in Berwick. He subsequently served as state fire marshal.

Perhaps the most prominent person from Berwick is Jenny Craig, weight loss guru and founder of Jenny Craig, Inc.

History

The first white settler to trek through the wilderness in this area was Thomas Berwick, a surveyor from Pennsylvania who was working in Opelousas, Louisiana. He settled along the banks of the Atchafalaya River in the late 18th century. Today the town of Berwick is home to several seafood processing plants and numerous boat companies.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 6.1 square miles (15.7 km²), of which 5.9 square miles (15.3 km²) is land and 0.15 square miles (0.4 km²), or 2.84%, is water.

Berwick-upon-Tweed ⁱ/ˈbɛrᵻk əpɒn ˈtwiːd/ is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK parliament by an elected Member of Parliament (MP). Since 2015 this MP has been Anne-Marie Trevelyan of the Conservative Party who replaced the longest serving Liberal Democrat MP Sir Alan Beith who stood down prior to the 2015 election.

Boundaries

The constituency of Berwick-upon-Tweed is in the county of Northumberland. It includes as its northernmost point the town of Berwick-upon-Tweed and stretches south to include the towns of Alnwick and Amble — the Northumberland coast forms its long eastern boundary. Its length is roughly 50 miles (80 km) and its area is 2,310 square kilometres.

Predominantly rural in character, this constituency is the most northerly in England and is relatively sparsely populated.

Between 1918 and 1949 the constituency comprised Berwick upon Tweed Municipal Borough, the Urban Districts of Alnwick, Amble and Rothbury, together with the Rural Districts of Alnwick, Belford, Glendale, Norham & Islandshire and Rothbury.
