Jake Peavy

Jacob Edward "Jake" Peavy (born May 31, 1981) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball (MLB). He has also played in MLB for the San Diego Padres, Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox. He bats and throws right-handed.

Peavy stands 6'1" tall (1.85 m) and weighs 195 pounds (83 kg). While with the Padres, he won the 2007 NL Cy Young Award after recording the pitching triple crown that year. He was traded from the White Sox to the Red Sox in 2013 and helped them to a World Series title later that season. One year later, he was traded to the San Francisco Giants, where he also helped them win a World Series title later in the season. He became the first starting pitcher in Major League history to win two consecutive World Series with two different teams in two different leagues, including being traded by his former team at the trade deadline.

Jake wore the number 44 throughout his career. When he was traded to the San Francisco Giants, he took number 43, as 44 was retired in honor of Willie McCovey. After struggling in the middle of the 2014 season, he changed to 22.

Famous quotes by Jake Peavy:

"I don't think we did anything wrong tonight. That's the way St. Louis plays, the way Atlanta plays. That's how you have to play to win in the playoffs, fundamentally sound baseball."
"We've been in the driver's seat for so long now, that if we lose this thing, it's not going to be because Barry Bonds came back and the Giants all of a sudden made a run. It's because we gave this thing away. It's ours to win. If we go out night in and night out and play the baseball we're supposed to play, the division is over."
"That's the way you have to play in the playoffs. You battle, get some timely hits, make the plays defensively, find a way to win. Play fundamentally sound baseball and don't beat yourself. I like it."
"We played great defense,"
"That's what you've got to do in the playoffs. I like it when the team does it like that, because it builds confidence."
"I don't think he has to prove anything,"
"When the last time you threw a baseball you were feeling a sharp pain in your shoulder,"
"Some guys come out of the chute and do well in spring training, so he's certainly capable. I don't think he'll get four balls the first time up, but he's definitely earned our respect."
"It was so good to get on the mound and feel how I did today, ... I didn't have all my strength, but that's normal when you've taken some time off. I was about 80 to 90 percent on some pitches, with no pain on any pitch."
"It's been a crazy year, ... But all that matters now is winning this [division] and getting to the postseason."
