Jakarta /dʒəˈkɑːrtə/, officially known as the Special Capital Region of Jakarta (Indonesian: Daerah Khusus Ibu Kota Jakarta), is the capital and largest city of Indonesia, (though Jakarta is also a province) and one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world.

Located on the northwest coast of Java, Jakarta is the country's economic, cultural and political centre, and with a population of 10,075,310 as of 2014. The official metropolitan area, known as Jabodetabek (a name formed by combining the initial syllables of Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi), is the fourth largest in the world, yet the metropolis's suburbs still continue beyond it. Its unofficial built-up (metropolitan) area covers Bogor, Tangerang, Bekasi, Karawang, Serang, Purwakarta, Sukabumi and Subang regencies (123 districts) including also Tangerang, Bekasi, Tangerang Selatan, Depok, Serang and Cilegon Municipalities was home to 30,214,303 inhabitants as of 2010 census.

Established in the fourth century, the city became an important trading port for the Kingdom of Sunda. It was the de facto capital of the Dutch East Indies (known as Batavia at that time). Today, the city has continued as the capital of Indonesia since the country's independence was declared in 1945. The city is currently the seat of the ASEAN Secretariat as well as houses important financial institutions such as the Bank of Indonesia, the Indonesia Stock Exchange, and the corporate headquarters of numerous Indonesian companies and multinational corporations. Jakarta's business opportunities, as well as its potential to offer a higher standard of living, attract migrants from all over Indonesia, making the city a melting pot of many communities and cultures.

Jakarta!

Jakarta! is the first novel by writer Christophe Dorigné-Thomson published by the Indonesian media conglomerate Kompas Gramedia Group in 2012.

Jakarta! was widely promoted in the media and endorsed by major Indonesian figures such as businessman and owner of football club Inter Milan Erick Thohir, businessman Sandiaga Uno, politician Irman Gusman, Minister of Education Anies Baswedan or actor Rio Dewanto.

The novel tells the story of a young European who travels the world on missions paid by governments or multinationals to kill high-level targets. The book is in fact a disguised essay on geopolitical shifts and their consequences.

Jakarta (mango)

The 'Jakarta' mango is a named mango cultivar that originated in south Florida.

History

The original tree was grown on the property of Laurence Zill in Boynton Beach, FL, and was reportedly a seedling of the 'Paheri' mango. A 2005 pedigree analysis indicated that 'Jakarta' was likely the result of a cross between the 'Zill' and 'Kent' varieties.

'Jakarta' did not gain widespread acceptance as a commercial mango, however it did find a market as a nursery stock and dooryard tree in Florida.

'Jakarta' trees are part of the collections of the USDA's National Germplasm Repository in Miami, FL, and the Miami-Dade Fruit and Spice Park in Homestead, FL.

Description

The fruit has a round to oblong shape, and develops a distinctive sunset orange-red color at maturity, averaging a little over a pound in weight. The flesh is yellow and fiberless, with a uniquely resinous but rich flavor and aroma, and contains a monoembryonic seed. The fruit mature from June to August in Florida.

'Jakarta' trees are vigorous growers and form dense, rounded canopies.

Jakarta is a French EDM, and Electro house production team, consisting of Danny Wild, Alan Pride, David Kane, and Dave King. Their work is available on Hypetraxx Records, and has been remixed by Mondotek. Their music is in the tribal house style, but with a childlike voice. Their most relevant tracks are "Superstar" and "One Desire", which did well on the French charts in 2008.

Their first single, "One Desire", was distributed by Airplay Records for France, Universal (Belgium, Spain), Dancestreet (Germany), Sony BMG (Mexico), TMC Nordic (Scandinavia), Magic Records (Poland), and Teta (Israel). "One Desire" stayed at number 2 on the charts for four months in 2008.

The group created two 3D animated video clips with characters that are mostly babies. Their main character is Totosse, a dancing baby with a red Mohawk haircut.

Jakarta is a Serbian and former Yugoslav rock band from Belgrade.

Band history

1981 - 1988

Jakarta was formed in 1981. During the initial period the band went through numerous lineup changes, before original members Igor Popović (vocals) and Jane Parđovski (a former Butik member, guitar) started performing with Rade Bulatović (bass guitar), Miloš Petrović (keyboards) and Ivan Fece (a former Luna member, drums).

They released their debut album Maske za dvoje (Masks for Two), produced by Saša Habić, in 1984. The album brought synth-funk hits "Spiritus", "Piromanija" ("Pyromania"), "Dama sa severa" ("Lady from the North") and "Pozovi me" ("Call Me"). In 1985, Popović appeared as vocalist in the Rex Ilusivii song "Arabia", released on the compilation album Ventilator 202 Demo Top 10 Vol. 3, and took a part in the YU Rock Misija project, a Yugoslav contribution to Live Aid. On June 15 of the same year, Jakarta, alongside 23 other acts, performed at Red Star Stadium on a concert which was a part of YU Rock Misija.
