Jailbait (book)

Jailbait: The Politics of Statutory Rape Laws in the United States is a 2004 non-fiction book by Carolyn Cocca, published by the State University of New York Press. It discusses the ages of consent in the United States.

Chapter 1 analyzes the general history of statutory rape policies in the U.S., while Chapters 2, 3, and 4 discuss how states revised and adopted the laws in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. Each of the three other chapters discusses a particular aspect of the revisions and adoptions: Respectively they are the age revisions, gender-neutral language, and revisions related to 1990s social welfare policies concerning teenage pregnancy, race, and deadbeat fathers.

Reception

Donald P. Haider-Markel of the University of Kansas concluded that the book is "a thoughtful and engaging book that connects a variety of theoretical perspectives and makes use of multiple methodological approaches in a coherent manner." He argued that the book would be good for classes on public policy at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He added that he believed Cocca had overstated several of her arguments, such as those about the role of interest groups and the use of statutory rape laws as "morality politics".

Season 3 (2004)

Season 3 follows the Strike Team attempts of lying low after the Money Train Heist. However, their efforts are hindered as the repercussions of the heist start to pursue them, which brings some tension between Shane, Lem, and Tavon. Also, Aceveda looks for his replacement as he prepares to take the seat of councilman.

Season 4 (2005)

Season 4 features the new captain of The Barn, Monica Rawling who implements controversial federal asset forfeiture laws to control drug dealing in Farmington, which is controlled by the leader of the One-Niners gang, Antwon Mitchell, who has just been released from prison. To stop this, Rawling empowers Vic, whose Strike Team has disbanded since the last season forcing them to reunite.

Controversial Reddit communities

The social news site Reddit has occasionally been the topic of controversy due to the presence of communities on the site (known as subreddits) devoted to explicit material. Yishan Wong, the site's former CEO, has stated that "We stand for free speech. This means we are not going to ban distasteful subreddits. We will not ban legal content even if we find it odious or if we personally condemn it."

The subreddit "/r/jailbait" was one of the most prominent subreddits on the site before it was closed down in October 2011 following a report by CNN. The controversy surrounding /r/Creepshots a year after /r/jailbait's closure prompted a Gawker exposé of one of the subreddit's moderators by Adrian Chen, which revealed the real-life identity of the user behind the account. This started discussion in the media about the ethics of anonymity and outing on the Internet.

Reddit's staff was initially opposed to the addition of obscene material to the site, but they eventually became more lenient when prolific moderators such as the user "violentacrez" proved capable of identifying and removing illegal content at a time when they were not sufficiently staffed to take on the task. Communities devoted to explicit material saw rising popularity, with the /r/jailbait subreddit (featuring provocative shots of teenagers) being chosen "subreddit of the year" in the "Best of reddit" user poll in 2008 and at one point making "jailbait" the second most common search term for the site. Erik Martin, general manager of Reddit, defended the jailbait subreddit by saying that such controversial pages were a consequence of allowing free speech on the site.

Madness (Ivi Adamou song)

"Madness" is a song performed by the Cypriot artist Ivi Adamou and a member of the new Greek up-coming band/project tU, Dimitris Domakos. This song will be in Ivi's new studio album. It's the English version of "Fige" a song from her first studio album, San Ena Oniro, however the two versions of the song have a different lyrical meaning.

It first announced that the video will be released on 5 July but it released one day earlier, on 4 July.

Synopsis

Adamou is a photographer-reporter while Dimitris (tU lead singer) is graffiti boy. One night she follows him, to plans a big graffiti of the (+) symbol of Amita Motion (wearing mask) and secretly she photographs him. Seeing the pictures which she has taken she falls in love. Watching him and other nights in various places of the city, doing graffiti, siting and reading, talking to a chamber, walking. She photographs him endlessly and he realizes her. They walk both to the street and reach to the same place. She sings to him and they coming closer, the time which going to kiss each other, somebody with motorcycle passes in front of the camera the kiss is missed.

Newgrounds

Newgrounds is an American entertainment and social media website and company. Founded on July 6, 1995 by Tom Fulp, the site presently hosts games, movies, audio and artwork in four respective hubs, or Portals. Tom Fulp remains the site's owner and still regularly produces in-house content. Its offices are headquartered in the Glenside neighborhood of Cheltenham Township on the northern border of Philadelphia.

History

1991-1997

In 1991, Tom Fulp launched a Neo Geo fanzine by the name "New Ground" (from the Greek roots neo- and geo- translated into English) from his parents' basement in Perkasie, PA, sending sporadic issues to around 100 members of a club on Prodigy. At this time New Ground was an entirely offline venue, and it was not until 1995 that he decided to create his own web page, naming it New Ground Remix to imply moving content online was the next step up in the brand's history.

New Ground Remix had a small amount of content, but did not gain a significant audience until summer of 1996, when Tom created the games "Club a Seal" and "Assassin," which brought viewers to New Ground based on their notoriety. In 1997, Fulp created the games "Club a Seal II" and "Assassin II," and decided that he wanted a new place to host these games. He created a separate website, New Ground Atomix, for this purpose.
