Jaichand

Jaichand (ruled 1173 – 1193) was a ruler of the Kannauj kingdom. At his time, the kingdom stretched from Benaras to Gaya and Patna, in the fertile area between the Yamuna and Ganges rivers. He belonged to the Gahadvala (Gaharwar) dynasty, from which descent of the Rathores of Rajasthan is sometimes traced. He was the father of Sanyogita, Prithviraj Chauhan's wife. He was defeated and killed by Muhammad Ghori at the Battle of Chandawar in 1193-94.

Sources

The most popular source about Jaichand's life is Prithviraj Raso, a semi-historical legend on the life of Prithviraj Chauhan; a similar account occurs in Ain-i-Akbari (16th century). His court poet Bhatta Kedar wrote a eulogy titled Jaichand Prakash (c. 1168) on his life, but the work is now lost. Another lost eulogy on his life is the poet Madhukar's Jaya Mayank Jas Chandrika. Other sources about his life include some accounts of the Battle of Tarain and his inscriptions. One of his inscription (c. 1170) was located at Bodhgaya.

Jai (actor)

Jai (born 6 April 1984), known mononymously as Jai, is an Indian actor working in Tamil films. Nephew of music composer Deva, Jai had worked as a keyboardist in films and had made his acting debut in a supporting role in Bagavathi (2002). In 2007, he successfully auditioned for a leading role in Venkat Prabhu's sports film Chennai 600028. The film emerged as a cult classic, as did his next role of an unemployed 1980s Madurai lad in Sasikumar's Subramaniapuram (2008).

Jai subsequently garnered praise for diverse roles, including a villager on holiday in Goa (2010), a timid working factory worker in Engaeyum Eppothum (2011) and a customer care executive in the romantic drama Raja Rani (2013), which became his biggest commercial success.

Personal life

Born into a family of musicians, Jai has stated that music was close to his heart and that it influenced him in his "growing years", particularly crediting his uncle, composer Deva. He has completed fifth grade in keyboard from Trinity College London and has said that he likes to be involved in the music compositions of his films. He has called himself a "huge fan" of Yuvan Shankar Raja’s work, saying that he has "often dreamt of surpassing his work as a composer someday".

Jai is a village situated in Machra Mandal of Meerut District in Uttar Pradesh, India. It is located 9.705 km distance from Machhra, and lies south east of the district headquarters at Meerut approximately 14.91 kilometres. According to the 1981 Census, the population was 3,464. The area extends 382.04 hectares. This is a predominantly Muslim village, mainly Muslim Rajput, with a Dalit minority.
