This is a list of characters from the police procedural British television series, The Bill. The fictional characters displayed here are ordered alphabetically by character surname. The characters are all police officers or civil support staff operating from the fictional Sun Hill Police Station within the London borough of Canley, London.

A

Timothy Able

Police Constable Timothy Able never settled in to life at Sun Hill. Born in Bromley, he was the youngest of three brothers, and had an ambition to be an car mechanic. His mother worked in a sportswear shop, and his father as a train driver. While at Sun Hill, Able excelled at the physical side of the job, but struggled when the situation required him to take statements and conduct interviews. This was noticed by Inspector Christine Frazer, who later sent him to undergo additional training in both. At the recommendation of Sergeant Bob Cryer, who felt Able had no sense of purpose, Able felt he had little choice other than to resign.

Jacob Banks (singer)

Jacob Banks is a British singer-songwriter from Birmingham. Jacob became the first unsigned act to ever appear on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge. He supported Emeli Sande on her April 2013 UK tour. Jacob Banks won the 2012 MOBO UnSung regional competition in Birmingham and the Adidas ‘Are You In’ music competition. His music is influenced by a range of genres including soul, R&B and hip-hop. Jacob is currently working with artists such as Chase & Status, Bondax, Jake Gosling, Knox Brown, Plan B and Wretch 32. In April 2013, Jacob played his first headline show at the London St. Pancras Old Church. In 2013, one of his songs, Worthy, was played in the American TV series Suits in Season 3 Episode 9.

Music career

2012-present: Breakthrough

In October 2012 he recorded his debut EP titled 'The Monologue' which was released in January 2013. The second release from Jacob's EP 'The Monologue', titled 'Worthy', was played by BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe as his 'Next Hype' record on his Radio 1 show and received additional plays on 1Xtra, XFM, 6Music and Annie Nightingale. Banks features on Wretch 32's song "Doing OK", the second single from Wretch's forthcoming third studio album. Banks features on Chase and Status' Alive from their new album, Brand New Machine. He also supported them, on their Brand New Machine 2013 UK tour. Banks announced he was to release a joint EP featuring himself, Wretch 32 and George the Poet titled Gambling Man in 2013. However, this did not occur. On 1 May 2014, his collaboration with All About She, "I Can Wait", was released for free download as part of their debut extended play Go Slow.

Jacob Bancks

Sir Jacob Bancks (also Banks, Bankes, Banckes) (1662–1724) was a Swedish naval officer in the British service. He settled in England and became a Tory Member of Parliament.

Early life

His parents were Lawrence Bengston Bancks of Stockholm, commissioner of customs, and his wife Christina. He came to England in 1681 as a diplomat; he was secretary to the Swedish resident of the time in London, who was his uncle. The resident's name, Johan Barckman (Hans Barikman) Leijonberg, is usually Anglicised as James Barkman Leyenburg; it is also given as John Birkman, Count of Lezenburgh.

Naval officer

Bancks joined the Royal Navy in 1681. In 1690 he served at the Battle of Beachy Head, taking over from his wounded captain. Bancks himself had a commission as captain shortly after the battle; he commanded HMS Cambridge in September 1690. In the same year he bought Hall Place, Berkshire.

As captain of HMS Phoenix in 1692, Bancks was off the coast of Spain when he was driven ashore on 12 April by a superior French naval force. The Phoenix was burnt, to prevent its capture. He was captain in HMS Carlisle in 1693. He was on half pay from 1696, or from the conclusion of the Treaty of Ryswick (end 1697). He was knighted in 1698, as captain of HMS Russell, which he had commanded since 1696.

Jacob

Jacob (later given the name Israel) is regarded as a Patriarch of the Israelites. According to the Book of Genesis, Jacob (/ˈdʒeɪkəb/; Hebrew: יַעֲקֹב Standard Yaʿakov) was the third Hebrew progenitor with whom God made a covenant. He is the son of Isaac and Rebecca, the grandson of Abraham, Sarah and of Bethuel, and the younger twin brother of Esau. Jacob had twelve sons and at least one daughter, by his two wives, Leah and Rachel, and by their handmaidens Bilhah and Zilpah.

Jacob's twelve sons, named in Genesis, were Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Issachar, Zebulun, Joseph, and Benjamin. His only daughter mentioned in Genesis is Dinah. The twelve sons became the progenitors of the "Tribes of Israel".

As a result of a severe drought in Canaan, Jacob and his sons moved to Egypt at the time when his son Joseph was viceroy. After 17 years in Egypt, Jacob died and Joseph carried Jacob's remains to the land of Canaan, and gave him a stately burial in the same Cave of Machpelah as were buried Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Rebecca, and Jacob's first wife, Leah.

Signers

Signers are people who bear the Mark of the Crimson Dragon, a deity worshiped by a pre-Incan civilization that defended the world from the Red Nova and the Earthbound Immortals with the help of the Signer Dragons, powerful dragons that have been turned into Duel Monsters cards that the current Signers now possess. Signers are chosen by the Crimson Dragon to protect the world from evil.

Jacob (clothing retailer)

Jacob (formally known as Boutique Jacob, Inc) is a private five store Canadian chain of women's and girls' clothing store chain based out of Montreal, Quebec. At its peak, Jacob once had over 200 stores all over Canada, usually in malls. In addition to its main brand Jacob, the company operated under the banners Jacob Connexion, Jacob Lingerie, Josef and Danz.

The company was founded in 1977 by its current president Jacob Basmaji. The original store opened in Sorel-Tracy, Quebec and still operates. The first store outside of Quebec was opened in Toronto in 1985. Jacob opened its first US store (in Cambridge, Massachusetts) circa 2000.

Jacob's flagship store is at the corner of Sainte-Catherine and Drummond streets in downtown Montreal.

Stores were shuttered in 2014 and online site ceased operating in 2015. In April 2015 the online site has been restarted offering only their fragrance and plans to open a few stores in Quebec only. Jacob emerged from bankruptcy and will now be operating six stores chainwide, all of which are located in the province of Quebec. Among these five stores is the original 1977 Sorel store and another store in Old Quebec. The other three are all located in Montreal (which includes, among others, the downtown flagship store and another one at Galeries d'Anjou).
