Western jackdaw

The western jackdaw (Corvus monedula), also known as the Eurasian jackdaw, European jackdaw, or simply jackdaw, is a passerine bird in the crow family. Found across Europe, western Asia and North Africa, it is mostly resident, although northern and eastern populations migrate south in winter. Four subspecies are recognised, which mainly differ in the colouration of the plumage on the head and nape. Linnaeus first described it formally, giving it the name Corvus monedula. Later analysis of its DNA suggests that, with its closest relative the Daurian jackdaw, it is an early offshoot from the genus Corvus, and possibly distinct enough to warrant reclassification in a separate genus, Coloeus. The common name derives from the word "jack", meaning "small", and "daw", the native English name for the bird.

Measuring 34–39 centimetres (13–15 in) in length, the western jackdaw is a black-plumaged bird with a grey nape and distinctive pale-grey irises. It is gregarious and vocal, living in small groups with a complex social structure in farmland, open woodland, on coastal cliffs, and in urban settings. An omnivorous and opportunistic feeder, it eats a wide variety of plant material and invertebrates, as well as food waste from urban areas. Western jackdaws are monogamous and build simple nests of sticks in cavities in trees, cliffs, or buildings. About five pale blue or blue-green eggs with brown speckles are laid and incubated by the female. The young fledge in four to five weeks.

Jack-in-the-Box

Jack-in-the-Box, Jack Mead, first appears in Weapon X: The Draft - Sauron #1. Born an Australian aborigine mutant with telepathy and radar sense, his powers have a side effect where his body becomes petrified and brittle every time he uses them. He is taken into the Weapon X program, believing it to be a superhero team that could fix his mutant side effect, but he is ripped apart by his recruiter, Sauron, after a joke. He survives, becomes placed in a box, and he is utilized as a mind-reader during the admissions process for captured mutants incarcerated in the "Neverland" concentration camp.

Jackdaw is a fictional character featured in the Marvel Comics universe. He was created by Dez Skinn, Steve Parkhouse, Paul Neary and John Stokes, and first appeared in The Incredible Hulk Weekly #57 (April 1980).

Jackdaw were a Celtic rock band from Buffalo, NY from 2000 to 2009. One of the group's members, George Tutuska, was a former drummer for the Goo Goo Dolls.

The band formed in 2000, when Tim Byrne, returning from Europe and Tutuska looking to do something different approached singer/songwriter and Celtic performer Geno McManus about joining him up on his annual "Irish Week" of gigs. After a night of "hanging and drinking" with Tim and George the idea of the band was formed and they started the idea to create a "Brick Throwing" Celtic Rock band, that was "Factory Born" and based on their Irish heritage and industrial South Buffalo area roots. McManus then recruited Tommy Jordan to play Bass (Jordan also came up with the band's name based on a passage from the Frank McCourt memoir Angela's Ashes.), and thus the core band was formed. The songs "Maggie" and "Raise a Glass" were penned during these first rehearsals.

As the core members rehearsed, wrote and performed more, they decided they needed to search for additional players, in order to balance the "raw style" with the traditional "celtic sound". It was then that principal songwriter Byrne found and recruited "multi-instrumentalist" David Moore, while Tommy Jordan recruited long-time friend Joe Davies to play violin. In late 2000, McManus left the band.
