Jack Fisk

Jack Fisk (born December 19, 1946) is an American film production designer, art director and film director.

Career

Fisk was art director on Brian De Palma's Carrie (1976), in which his wife Sissy Spacek played the title role. He frequently collaborates with directors Terrence Malick and David Lynch (whom he has known since childhood). His production design and art director credits include all six of Malick's feature films and Lynch's The Straight Story (1999) and Mulholland Drive (2001). He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Art Direction for Paul Thomas Anderson's There Will Be Blood. He received his second Academy Award nomination for the film The Revenant at the 88th Academy Awards.

Fisk appeared in Lynch's Eraserhead (1977) as the Man in the Planet, and the film's credits give "special thanks" to him and to Sissy Spacek (who reputedly held the slates between takes).

Personal life

Fisk met his wife, Spacek, when working on Terrence Malick's 1973 movie Badlands, in which she portrayed the aloof and distant version of Caril Ann Fugate. The couple married on April 12, 1974. They have two daughters, Schuyler Fisk (born 1982), also an actress, and Madison Fisk, a painter (born 1988).

Jack Fisk (Battlestar Galactica)

Jack Fisk is a fictional character from the 2004 TV series Battlestar Galactica, portrayed by Graham Beckel.

Jack Fisk, service number 245A-34DC, was originally a Lieutenant Colonel (later Colonel) aboard the Battlestar Pegasus and was the Executive Officer (XO) of the vessel, serving under the command of Admiral Helena Cain. Fisk was first encountered when the refugee fleet discovered the Pegasus, learning the ship had survived the Cylon attack on the colonies. Fisk portrayed himself as a "by-the-book" officer, who was fearful of his superior, Cain.

As the crews from both Battlestars began to interact, Fisk soon befriended his Galactica counterpart Colonel Saul Tigh. A rather inebriated Fisk told Tigh that Admiral Cain had shot her original XO in cold blood for daring to question an order. This led to Fisk's promotion to XO. Fisk then told Tigh that he was only joking, but harrowing suspicions about Cain were already spreading throughout the fleet. In a later discussion with Tigh, Fisk revealed how Cain ordered several civilian ships to be scrapped for parts, and then threatened to kill the families of those who would not agree to join the crew.
