When Clark was a student at University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley), he began his career as a substitute radio announcer for radio station KROW in Oakland, California. After graduating from UC Berkeley, he moved to New York City, and first worked as a game show announcer for Password (where, when the word was flashed on the screen, he would whisper from offstage, "the password is..."; he also occasionally substituted for host Allen Ludden). From there, he went on to host 100 Grand (1963) and Dealer's Choice from 1974 to 1975 (replacing Bob Hastings). Later, Clark hosted The Cross-Wits from 1975 until 1980, where he was noted for his rapport with the celebrities and contestants. Clark later went on to announce for several other game shows, including Split Second (1972–1975), Tattletales (1974), Three for the Money (1975), Second Chance (1977), and some Hollywood-originated episodes of The $10,000 Pyramid. Earlier in 1967, Clark also did some commercials for Winston cigarettes in Super King (100 MM ) size.

A four-time All-Star In an 18-season career, Clark was a .267 hitter with 340 home runs and 1180 RBI in 1994 games. Clark

Clark is an English language surname, ultimately derived from the Latin clericus meaning "scribe", "secretary" or a scholar within a religious order, referring to someone who was educated. Clark evolved from "clerk". First records of the name are found in 12th century England. The name has many variants.

Clark is the twenty-seventh most common surname in the United Kingdom, including placing fourteenth in Scotland. Clark is also an occasional given name, as in the case of Clark Gable.

According to the 1990 United States Census, Clark was the twenty-first most frequently encountered surname, accounting for 0.23% of the population. Notable people with the surname include:

  • Abraham Clark (1725–1794), American politician and Revolutionary War figure
  • Adam Clark, American meteorologist
  • Alan Clark (1928–1999), British Conservative politician and author, son of Kenneth Clark
  • Allen George Clark (1898–1962), British businessman
  • Andy Clark (musician), British musician
  • Anne Clark (disambiguation), multiple people
  • Clark (mascot)

Clark is the official team mascot of Major League Baseball's Chicago Cubs. He was announced on January 13, 2014 as the first official mascot in the modern history of the Cubs franchise. He was introduced that day at the Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center's pediatric developmental center along with some of the Cubs' top prospects such as number one draft pick Kris Bryant and Albert Almora, Jorge Soler, Mike Olt and Eric Jokisch. Over a dozen Cubs prospects were attending the Cubs' Rookie Development Program that week. The Cubs become the 27th team in Major League Baseball to have a mascot, leaving the Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees as the remaining franchises without mascots. According to the Cubs' press release, Clark is a response to fan demands (expressed via surveys and interviews) for more kid-friendly elements at Wrigley Field Cubs games to keep pace with games in other cities that have more to offer youth fans.

    Description

He is a "young, friendly Cub" who will wear a backwards baseball cap and greet fans entering Wrigley Field, which is located at the corner of Clark Street (for which he is named) and Addison Street. North Clark Street borders the third base side of Wrigley Field. According to the Cubs, the fictional character Clark is descended from Joa, the franchise's original live Bears mascot in 1916.

    Famous quotes by Jack Clark:

"They're arguably one of the best teams that we'll play."
"This is sacred ground today. The price of freedom is truly visible here today."
"They sacrificed. They paid the ultimate price. God bless their souls and God bless America."
"You don't break legs, but you do take food out of the mouths of kids, ... This is a business that is begging for regulation."
"This business as a whole is one of the most predatory businesses in the world, ... It's designed to prey on the people who can least afford it."
"It wasn't anything profound from me at halftime. We just kind of stuck to our game plan and it came right in the second half."
"Sacramento State wasn't the caliber of UBC, but neither was the team we had on the field. We made mistakes of inexperience. We're not happy to give up tries, certainly."
"St Mary's will probably be one of the better teams to date we've played. They've got a strong group of forwards and well-skilled backs. I'd say they've got quite a bit of athleticism."
"This business is one of the most predatory on the face of the earth, ... It preys on people who can least afford it. They have higher rates than loan sharks. They may not break any legs, but they are taking food out of the mouth of kids."
"We're happy to put whatever guys that are next on the list out there. Injuries are part of the game and player availability is what it is. So, we'll just go with the next guy in the depth chart, stick him in there, and he'll be the guy in blue and gold."
