Jack Andrews

Sir John Lawson Ormrod Andrews KBE, DL (15 July 1903 – 12 January 1986) was a member of both the Northern Ireland House of Commons and the Senate of Northern Ireland.

Son of Prime Minister John Miller Andrews, he was educated at Moure Grange Preparatory School, County Down, and Shrewsbury School. Andrews entered Parliament as MP for Mid Down in 1953 (replacing his father), a seat which he represented until his resignation in 1964, when he was elected to the Senate where he sat until the Parliament was prorogued in 1972. His election to the senate was following a cabinet reshuffle, in which Andrews accepted demotion to the politically unimportant position of Government Minister in the Senate.

He held several Cabinet positions, including Minister in the Senate from 1964 and Deputy Prime Minister from May 1969. He was a contender for the position of Prime Minister on the retirement of Lord Brookeborough, but when it became clear that Terence O'Neill had a comfortable lead over both Andrews and Brian Faulkner in the parliamentary party, no contest was held. In 1969 he was approached by O'Neill to succeed him, but he refused and James Chichester-Clark was elected

Jack Andrews (footballer)

John Henry "Jack" Andrews (26 May 1898 – 1974) was an English footballer who made 78 appearances in the Football League playing at left half or left back for Darlington and Southend United in the 1920s. He was on the books of Durham City and Grimsby Town, without representing either in the League, played non-league football for Shildon, and returned for a second spell with Darlington ahead of the 1929–30 season, but without playing league football for them.

Andrews headed the opening goal when Third Division Southend beat Second Division leaders Derby County by four goals to one in the fourth round of the 1925–26 FA Cup.

Clifford Andrews

Clifford Jack Andrews (6 August 1912 – 11 December 1973) was an English cricketer. Andrews was a right-handed batsman who fielded as a wicket-keeper. He was born in Swindon, Wiltshire.

He made his first-class debut for Hampshire against Cambridge University. He next appeared in first-class cricket for Hampshire following World War II, playing a further 6 matches, the last of which came against Glamorgan. In his 7 first-class matches, he scored 127 runs at an average of 14.11, with a high score of 29. Behind the stumps he took 6 catches and made a single stumping.

Outside of cricket, Andrews was a police officer, employed by Southampton City Police, with him being based in Southampton. He played cricket for the cities police force during the war. He was the younger brother of the Somerset all-rounder Bill Andrews, and was known in his family as "Jack". He died in Eastleigh, Hampshire on 11 December 1973.
