J. W. Robinson

James William Robinson (January 19, 1878 - December 2, 1964) was a U.S. Representative from Utah.

Born in Coalville, Utah, Robinson attended public schools. He graduated from Brigham Young University and from the law school of the University of Chicago in 1912. He was admitted as member of the bar of the State of Utah in 1912 and practiced law in Provo County, Utah from 1912 to 1933.

Robinson served as County attorney of Utah County from 1918 to 1921 and was Democratic candidate for attorney general of Utah in 1924. He served as member of the board of regents of the University of Utah from 1925 to 1935.

Robinson was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-third and to the six succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1933 – January 3, 1947). He served as chairman of the Committee on Public Lands (Seventy-sixth and Seventy-seventh Congresses), Committee on Roads (Seventy-eighth and Seventy-ninth Congresses).

He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1946 to the Eightieth Congress. He served as director of grazing in the Office of Land Management, Interior Department, Washington, D.C., from January 3, 1947, to January 31, 1949. He then returned to Salt Lake City, Utah.

J. W. Robinson (mayor)

Jeremiah William Robinson (July 18, 1860 – January 13, 1939) served as mayor of Boise, Idaho, from 1915 to 1916.

Robinson was the subject of a successful recall election on June 1, 1916. He was succeeded by S. H. Hays.

Kyushu J7W

The Kyūshū J7W Shinden (震電, "Magnificent Lightning") fighter was a World War II Japanese propeller-driven aircraft prototype that was built in a canard design. The wings were attached to the tail section and stabilizers were on the front. The propeller was also in the rear, in a pusher configuration.

Developed by the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as a short-range, land-based interceptor, the J7W was a response to B-29 Superfortress raids on the Japanese home islands. For interception missions, the J7W was to be armed with four forward-firing 30 mm cannons in the nose.

The Shinden was expected to be a highly maneuverable interceptor, but only two prototypes were finished before the end of war. A jet engine–powered version was considered, but never even reached the drawing board.

Design and development

In the IJN designation system, "J" referred to land-based fighters and "W" to Watanabe Tekkōjo, the company that oversaw the initial design.

The idea of a canard-based design originated with Lieutenant Commander Masayoshi Tsuruno, of the technical staff of the IJN in early 1943. Tsuruno believed the design could easily be retrofitted with a turbojet, when suitable engines became available. His ideas were worked out by the First Naval Air Technical Arsenal (Dai-Ichi Kaigun Koku Gijitsusho), which designed three gliders designated Yokosuka MXY6, featuring canards. These were built by Chigasaki Seizo K. K. and one was later fitted with a 22 hp Semi 11 (Ha-90) 4-cylinder air-cooled engine.

Waco Custom Cabin series

The Waco Custom Cabins were a series of up-market single-engined four-to-five-seat cabin sesquiplanes of the late 1930s produced by the Waco Aircraft Company of the United States. "Custom Cabin" was Waco's own description of the aircraft which despite minor differences, were all fabric-covered biplanes.

Jubilee 150 Walkway

The Jubilee 150 Walkway, also variously known as the Jubilee 150 Commemorative Walk, the Jubilee 150 Walk, and the Jubilee Walk, is a series of (initially) 150 bronze plaques set into the pavement of North Terrace, Adelaide. It was officially opened on 21 December 1986. It was commissioned as part of the celebrations commemorating the 150th anniversary of the founding of the state of South Australia. The plaques contain the names and deeds of (initially) 170 people who made major contributions to the founding and development of South Australia. Since 1986, the Adelaide City Council has added four plaques.

The plaques are arranged in alphabetic order, and stretch from King William Street to Pulteney Street along the north side of North Terrace. The walkway starts at the South African War Memorial, and passes in front of Government House, the National War Memorial, the State Library, the Museum, the Art Gallery and the University of Adelaide.

King William Street

The walkway starts near the corner of North Terrace and King William Street, in front of the front gates and gatehouse of Government House. The very corner is occupied by the South African War Memorial. Also on that corner, starting from the gatehouse and walking SE, are statues of the heads of Sir Thomas John Mellis Napier (1882–1976),Mary Lee and Sir Mark Oliphant, all of whom have plaques on the walkway.
